Wizards Unite: Harry Potter Game Made By Niantic

The creators of Pokemon Go, Niantic, have just shown off the next game that they want to eat up your life and time. This time the game of choice concentrates on spells and wands as opposed to pocket monsters and raids. That’s right, Niantic is working on a Harry Potter game called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The game will allow gamers to act as wizards and witches in the real world, casting ‘spells’ and engaging in challenges. All in the ever important effort of keeping the magical world separate from the muggle one.

If you look at the game’s website, you can see that Niantic describes the upcoming adventure as follows: “A calamity has befallen the wizarding world, causing artefacts, creatures, people, and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. Witches and wizards from across the globe must come together to solve the mystery of The Calamity, overcome the confounding chaotic magic that surrounds these ‘Foundables,’ and return them to their rightful place, keeping them safe from Muggle eyes. Your journey begins as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, established by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards for the purpose of investigating and containing The Calamity.”

As you can see, the plot seems straightforward enough. We as players must handle this ‘Calamity’ and protect the world from our worlds magical creatures and the like. We must find traces of magic that have set themselves up around the world in a variety of muggle hot spots. These hot spots, much like PokeStops in the Pokemon Go game, will allow us to refill our Spell Energy so that we can continue to fight the good fight against these ‘Foundables’.

Apparently, unlike Pokemon Go, we will have the chance to experience more well known Harry Potter locations as well. That means that you can expect to see Ollivander’s Wand Shop at some point, though if it’s beside a McDonalds I might have a laugh.

The game will also have gamers trying to take on Death Eaters, Dementors, and other magical evils with your friends. I imagine they will work like raids, but at the moment I’m not quite sure.

A release date for the game has yet to be announced though you can pre-register for the game on the Google Play store if you are hyped for what is to come.
