Valve Let’s You Customized Your Controller
Author: S.A.
Valve is paving the way in terms of controller design, and other companies should take note. The PC gaming giant has released the mechanical blueprint, their CAD, of its Steam controller. This gives gamers everywhere the capability, if they have the cash, to customize their controller anyway they like with the help of a 3D printer.
The Half-life developers have released their first set of alternate designs on their website. The upgrades show two new battery ports, in which you can hold your Steam Controller’s wireless USB receiver when not in use. It is important to note that Valve has stated that you “may need to revise the geometry” to have it work with your own 3D printer.
Nothing of real note has been created yet, but in truth that’s only a matter of time. With gamers who have much time on their hands, and gamers that are both creative and fanatic, I’m sure the designs will be rolling in before long.
Valve themselves have made it clear that you can “Create and share to your heart’s content,” but should you wish to start to make money on certain designs please contact them first. This I feel is a fair enough favour to ask of the gaming community, and think gamers should be aware of this request
That said, let’s see what you guys can create.
