Ubisoft Fighting Off a Takeover?
Author: S.A.

Nothing can ruin a gaming companies day more, than to realize that another up and coming organization wants a large piece of their pie.

In fact, they want it all.

Vivendi, the company that use to own Activision, is looking to re-enter the gaming world. That said, they seem to want to use Ubisoft as their means to greatness. The company has their fingers in a whole host of other ventures, ranging from music, to film, TV, and no once again in video games. The company has already snatched up to 15% of Ubisoft shares and is hungry for more. Vivendi doesn’t want to discuss corporation between the two groups, but rather just own the company outright. Thus taking the name that has earned itself some serious acclaim in the gaming world for themselves.Ubisoft_logo_Monochrome

To combat this gradual take over from a foreign entity, Ubisoft is seeking out Canadian investors. This was announced from the mouth of Yves Guillmeot, the chairman of Ubisoft, and seems to solidify the fact that the gaming company is in need of some help. Guillemot has stated that Ubisoft is looking for investors, especially investors that are in it for the long haul. Obviously the corporation wants’ individuals who believe in their vision, and wont sell out to any body with enough cash. He went on to state that:

We want to increase the number of Canadian shareholders in Ubisoft to have better control over the Capital….We feel it’s a good defence.

In truth its hard to predict whether Ubisoft will survive this gradual attack. While it is true new management might just take over and let business as usual continue, its easy to see the opposite. Wherein which the company loses a ton of talented designers and developers that are currently employed within its ranks. That said, as it has been pointed out by financial analyst Michael Pachter, it would be easy for the “old” Ubisoft, with Guillemot at its head, to form a new company after the takeover. However, getting a name brand out there again is incredibly hardwork and might cause us to miss out on some potentially beautiful games in the immediate future.

Stop the madness.
