TORONTO COMICON CELEBRATES SAILOR MOON’S 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A CAST REUNION AND ANNOUNCES FUN FAMILY PROGRAMMING

Programming highlights include: Sailor Moon Sunday, Sketch Duels, and live recordings of Toronto’s hit podcasts

TORONTO, ON (March 9, 2022) – After two years, Toronto Comicon, presented by FAN EXPO Canada, is back with everything fans love including celebrity guests, comic creators, and more! The annual pop culture convention celebrates comics, sci-fi, fantasy, and animation for three days of non-stop programming for fans of all ages including the always popular Family Zone. Fans of the iconic ‘90s anime Sailor Moon are in for a powerful treat this year with a whole day dedicated to the magical series including a cast reunion panel, music celebration, fan meetups, trivia, plushie workshop and more, all celebrating the 30th anniversary. The ultimate fan celebration blasts off at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s South Building from March 18-20, 2022.

Toronto Comicon’s Family Zone will keep the mini mes and superkids in your life entertained this March Break with fantastic fun including craft, plushie making, sustainable gardening, and slime making workshops; Harry Potter-themed content including Sorting Hat ceremonies and photo ops; fort building; sing-a-longs; and the Toronto Comicon Little Village where they can play to their hearts’ content.

New this year, Toronto Comicon introduces podcast programming with a selection that includes the improvised true crime podcast Killed to Death, comedy interview series You Made Me Queer!, actual-play D&D podcast Dwarven Moss, improvised scary story SPOOKED!, a podcast offering modern analysis of vintage celebrity gossip The Reheat, horror-fiction Parkdale Haunt, and sci-fi thriller Cascadia.

Special celebrity, comic, cosplay and voice actor guests at this year’s show include newly added members of the original Degrassi Junior High cast Amanda SteptoStacie Mistysyn, and Pat Mastroianni; in addition to previously announced guests including the incredible Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk); Star Wars legends Tim Rose, who brought Admiral Ackbar to life, and BB-8 and porg puppeteer Brian Herring; the original Red Ranger Austin St. John (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers); Hollywood icon John Cusack (Being John MalkovichHigh Fidelity); beloved Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort (SmallvilleThe Handmaid’s Tale); former TARDIS time-traveller Jenna Coleman (Doctor WhoVictoria); and many other iconic guests. Programming Highlights for Toronto Comicon include:

SAILOR MOON SUNDAY!

Sailor Moon is turning 30 and Toronto Comicon is hosting a whole day of Sailor Moon-themed programming to celebrate! Meet the voices of Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars and Tuxedo Mask at Toronto Comicon and join the cast reunion panel on Sailor Moon Sunday with Linda Ballantyne, Katie Griffin, and Toby Proctor. Take part in the Sailor Moon Amazing Race, as fans are challenged to complete seven Sailor Moon themed tasks in the race to win a signed poster and official photo op with the cast of Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon Sunday also includes a fan meetup, trivia, a celebration of Sailor Moon music, a plushie workshop, and button making.

CELEBRITY PANELS

Beyond autograph signings and photo ops, celebrity guests will take part in Q&A presentations where fans can learn more about their storied lives and careers. Scheduled panelists include:

FUN FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY

Even the youngest superheroes will have something to do, from epic fort building and princess sing-a-longs, Sorting Hat ceremonies, Harry Potter photo ops; plushie making and crafting workshops; sustainability gardening, slime making and relaxing in the Toronto Comicon Little Village, where you can play in the village houses, hunt for bugs, go fishing and so much more!

COSPLAY PROGRAMMING

Cosplay takes centre stage with panels, showcases, competitions and more. Fans can join professional cosplayers Jillea and Married Makers for craftsmanship and industry insight panels; hit the Cosplay Red Carpet to get their free photo taken by Droo Photography; test their skills to see if they could beat the Squid Game Dalgona Challenge; and show off their costume at the Toronto Comicon Costume Contest on Saturday, March 19 where Best Hero, Best Villain and Best Duo/Group winners will be crowned. Younger cosplayers can get in on the fun with the Kids Cosplay Contest on Saturday afternoon.

CAPTIVATING COMICS

Be sure to check out the comic stage for three packed days of drawing and colouring demos, sneak previews, industry insights and more. Superstar comic creators Dave Johnson, Jim Shooter, and Tony Harris, amongst many others, will be on hand to share expert tips and tricks, or fans can take a seat and pick a side for the ultimate Sketch Duels showdowns.

Artist Alley is a must experience area for anyone interested in meeting the rising stars and the people who work the front lines of the industry. Indie meets pro in this special area where attendees will find all their favorite pencillers, inkers and writers. This show staple offers everything from comics and graphic novels, to limited edition prints and original artwork, as well as crafters and makers.
