A trailer for the movie Upgrade dropped a few days ago and I had stumbled across it while I was watching out for other videos. After viewing the trailer I felt as if I was sucker punched as this looks to be a visceral and raw movie.

Upgrade is set in the future where technology has made advances in more than a few areas. The trailer starts out with a man who was beaten so badly that he had become a paraplegic. His wife was also killed by a gang of people and the only thing he wants to do is to get revenge against them. A doctor comes along and offers this gift in the form of a computer chip with a brain that will be wired into his spinal column. The chip is called STEM and if it works he would be cured and able to walk and work with his hands again. He graciously accepts the offer and within a matter of weeks is up and running again.

As the time passes all he can think about is his wife and how she was taken from him by these hoodlums. It turns out that this computer can talk to him but he’s the only person that can hear it. The computer chip notices something from the security footage and this leads to the man tracking down one of the assailants. While he doesn’t really have a plan, he gets into a fight which he is losing, badly.

At this point we know that the chip can control his body and he grants it permission to help him win the fight. What happens next is extraordinary as he moves like a trained fighter dodging blows before they are even thrown. The fight ends with him executing the man and STEM giving him back full control of his body.

The trailer wraps up with a montage of scenes from the movie including built in weaponry and car chases as the main character tries to find those that were responsible for killing his wife. Upgrade looks absolutely amazing and comes from Blumhouse Tilt. If that sounds familiar it should. Blumhouse has given us great movies such as Saw, Insidious, The Purge, Get Out and Happy Death Day and I have to say that I am REALLY excited to see Upgrade.
