There has to be over a dozen different renditions of this story, that said, each new telling and adventure is just as enjoyable as the last. The Legend of Zelda returned once more with the Wind Waker, a story that takes place hundreds of years after the Ocarina of Time. In it we are happen to find our main hero Link once more on a small sparsely populated island. Our hero lives with his grandmother and younger sister, living a quaint and nice life.
If this doesn’t reek to you of upcoming disaster, your gaming radar must be quite broken gamers.
On this quaint little island a legend is passed down from generation to generation about a prosperous kingdom with a hidden golden power. A man stole this power and used it to spread darkness and terror across the land until a boy in green came and sealed the evil away. That boy, Link, became known as the Hero of Time and became a story passed on into legend. To honour this legend, when boys become of age on this land they dress up in green to honour the legendary hero. This is where the story opens and lo and behold it’s our main characters coming of age, and evil has begun to stir again, kidnapped his sister, and no new hero has appeared. What a happy family….
The game play for this adventure is quite enjoyable, and concentrates on an open world adventure that span’s numerous islands and mysteries. To reach the many islands involves, can you guess? Sailing. That’s right you must actually sail from one island to the next in a very time consuming manner. Normally it wold take some time to roam the sea, especially since the wind isn’t necessarily on your sails side. The game compensates for that by giving us access to a baton that can control wind. Nifty little cheat code right? With that in our power, it’s actually quite fun to roam the sea. You often run into small pockets of enemies that you can not only fight, but also claim gold or other such treasures from. The fighting system itself is actually really simple, but features a variety of weapons and gadgets to help you reach your end goal. That said puzzles are common place throughout the Zelda universe and are the bread and butter to defeating the bosses that oppose you.
Away we sail!
The graphics for the HD collection make a game that once looked pretty, look down right beautiful in comparison and allow it to flow even better. Not only that, the soundtrack featured within the game is a beautiful orchestra based symphony that is beautiful on the ears. Often allowing you to sail on the seas and relax, as if it was a day at the beach. Though that often explains why I was caught off guard by individuals trying to blow my boat up, complacency can get you killed in this game reader. So watch out!
Over all this game is a must play for all Zelda lovers, and those that love sinking in hours of time on a good gaming adventure. It’s full of mysteries and puzzles like none other and often had me scratching my head about what to do next. That said, its a game that doesn’t get any less fun to play despite repetition. Often having you enjoy each second that it has to offer. So please go out there and get it, or just hum the Hyrule theme song that you’ve always had in your heart.
