Possibly the biggest news coming out of New York Comic Con 2023 is the announcement that some of the hottest creators in comics are uniting to form Ghost Machine, a new creator-owned media company at Image Comics.
Led by Geoff Johns, Ghost Machine boasts an impressive roster of talent including Bryan Hitch, Gary Frank, Lamont McGee, Brad Meltzer, Francis Manapul, Maytal Zchut, Jason Fabok and Peter J. Tomasi.
According to Johns, Ghost Machine, “…wants to create iconic characters with massive, epic adventures. But we want to create beyond superheroes.” Ghost machine will be producing four universes, Rook, Family Odysseys, The Unnamed and a yet to be announced horror universe.
Two titles within The Unnamed universe are Geiger and Junkyard Joe. Geiger, already a part of Image Comics’ lineup debuted in 2021 under the creative team of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. Johns and Frank also collaborated on 2022’s Junkyard Joe and both series will be continuing under Ghost Machine. Set in the same universe, Johns will also be writing Redcoat, drawn by Bryan Hitch.
In the Family Odysseys group of books Peter J. Tomasi and Francis Manapul are the writer and artist on Rocketfellers, a series that combines time travel and the witness relocation program.
With Rook, Jason Fabok takes on the adventures of a mysterious character that wears a bird-like helmet. The helmet allows him to communicate with birds as he attempts to escape a dying post apocalyptic planet.
Ghost Machine’s titles are slated to hit shelves in April 2024.
