It’s time to find your challenger once more.

Another fight is coming your way! And the hype train has no signs of slowing down. A lot has happened since the announcement that Sony would be distributing the latest iteration of this legendary fighting series, netting themselves quite the console exclusive. From the returning and all new characters, new systems and mechanics, all the way to what you’ll need to even play the game if you want to for PC. So buckle in while we cover everything we know so far.

A whole litany of characters have been announced this time around, and true to point, many fan favorites will be making their return. This list of returning fighters include faces such as Ryu, Chun Li, Ken Masters, Cammy, Vega, and M. Bison. We also have some faces we haven’t seen in some time like Birdie, Rainbow Mika, Karin Kanzuki and though a little worse for wear Charlie. We all know we were waiting to see what Capcom would come up with next though and were not disappointed with the reveals of Necalli and Rashid. Not to mention that we still have two more characters left to be revealed in the starting line up, not even mentioning the characters that are sure to be released over time.

maxresdefaultChun Li’s Feet of Fury know no equal.

Let us turn away from the characters though and concentrated on the nitty gritty here, the mechanics that will make everything run like a fine tuned engine. That’s where V-Trigger and V-Skill come in. Although under a different name, V-Trigger is simply put your character specific Critical Arts, like Ryu’s iconic Shinku Hadoken, governed by the trigger gauge. V-Skill on the other hand is more a defensive move like Bison’s new ability of reflecting projectiles instead of taking the hit or blocking it. Each unique to each character and used to one up your opponent.

Ken-vs-Bison-Street-Fighter-5Bison’s block has leveled up.

Capcom has also announced that they will be abandoning their old method of compilation discs as each update comes out, or new characters get added, meaning you’ll ever only need to buy the game once. With in game currency you’ll be able to earn everything anyone else has by simply enjoying yourself and fighting your way to the top. Earning Fight Money from matches to use towards characters as released, or for those who want to add to Capcom’s tip jar, purchasing Zenny with real money to get things as released.

Now this is all fine and dandy, but where’s the honey to sweeten this delicious pot? Well The Capcom Fighters Network (CFN) is certainly something to help raise the bar. As a tool to help build the Street Fighter community it will be built directly into the online infrastructure of Street Fighter V with some pretty interesting features such as:

  • A “heat map” to see where in the world battles are happening.
  • Viewing player profiles and detailed match statistics.
  • Designate “rivals” throughout the world and monitor their performance
  • Friend registry and following favorite players
  • Search for and watch player’s replay files
  • Issue challenges online
  • News feeds for latest patch and tournament news
  • And much more to come

With each piece of news and updates released, there seems to be only more and more to look forward to. The latest news to drop so far though has to be the PC minimum and optimal Specs to even run the game.

Although the information was highly anticipated and in a lot of cases desired, it has left a bit of a sour taste in some PC players mouths as it seems that even the minimum requirements are just outside of some builds, leaving the choice of either upgrading or just buying the console.

All in all, things are heating up to an exciting launch come the first quarter of 2016. With Beta testing still being scheduled, including the first test of the cross platform trials between PS4 and PC, things can only get better from here.
