Star Trek fans who don’t have tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens can breathe a sigh of relief. The trailer to Star Trek Beyond was set to debut with the latest Star Wars film on Thursday, but it’s now available to the masses after it dropped today.
The trailer features the crew of the Enterprise out on another mission until they become separated when their ship is attacked and severely damaged (again!). It must be virtually impossible to get insurance for the Enterprise at this point. Kirk appears to be on his own, accompanied by an alien female while the rest of the crew, including an injured Spock try to pull themselves together on an alien planet.
The trailer doesn’t do much to reveal the film’s plot but scenes with the entire ship’s crew being herded like cattle by an alien race while Idris Elba, under layers of prosthetics and makeup, grimaces menacingly suggests that he’s the big bad of Beyond and that he has nothing but cruel intentions for the crew.
Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) and boasts a screenplay by Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John D. Payne, Patrick McKay and Simon Pegg. Pegg does double duty on the film reprising his role as Scotty. He’s joined by other Trek vets Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Cho.
