Sony is finally following the masses and caving for the demand for cross-play features. Though admittedly it is only for “select third-party content” at this moment, this is hopefully good news. After all, there are more than a few games I wish I could play with my friends, but alas our systems are not compatible. This gives developers the chance, should Sony allow it, to make my dream a reality.
I’m looking at you when I say that Blizzard(Overwatch).
In a blog post on their site, the gaming titan had this to say about the change: “Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third-party content. We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution.
The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross-platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.”
So at the moment, only Fortnite is allowing the cross-play feature but I’m sure there are more than a few games fans are hoping might be opened up to them. That said, what game would you like to see have a cross-play feature added to it? Let us know in the comments section!
