It was literally just yesterday that we were discussing the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie and viewing. From viewing its first trailer, and getting a look at the design for our favorite blue speedster.
As you can see from the below trailer, everything about the movie felt cheesy and sort of out of place. It seems this went doubly so for our blue speed demon, as he is already getting a makeover from his current design.
After viewing the above trailer, fans ran to their internet screens and complained loudly about the design of the hero. Well, I can only assume loudly, as the director of the movie Jeff Fowler has just announced today that Sonic will already be undergoing redesign ahead of the official release date.
The director had this to say on his Twitter page about the decision.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast 🔧✌️

The major criticism seemed to be focused on, well everything about the blue speedster. From his legs to his torso and eyes. Overall, fans felt that they concentrated too much on making him look humanoid and thus lost some sort of important design that made Sonic so unique to them.
As of yet, there is no word on what the redesign will look like. However, I feel it’s safe to say that it will feature a more cartoony looking Sonic the Hedgehog.
