Back in the month of May I was working at a job, they had an employee recognition day and I was gifted with a $25 gift card to my local movie theater. A newly opened Regal cinemas had opened not far from where I live but the decision came down as what movie to go see? We had just taken in Deadpool 2 a week earlier and we wanted something that was going to be enjoyable and we remembered that Solo: A Star Wars Story was going to be released on the 23rd. As I settled into my giant recliner with my bottle of Dasani water and big bucket of popcorn I had no idea what was in store for me. The movie was amazing touching on things that I did not know about the character and now you can bring the experience home on blu-ray!
The first disc contains the film in all its glory and as the movie opens up you will watch Han Solo on the Imperial ship building world of Corellia. Solo along with his friend Qi’ra are in a street gang and are looking to get off world. As they bribe their way past an Imperial checkpoint they are separated and Han vows to find a way back to her. This starts a series of events where we are shown how Han becomes involved with the criminal syndicates and how he not only meets Chewbacca but also meets up with his friend Lando Carlrissian. I don’t want to spoil the rest of the film for those that haven’t seen it however, once you watch this film you’ll start to notice some of the things that are discussed in the later films and it is simply amazing to experience these things first hand. And the way that it sets up the sequel – all I can say is that I cannot wait for that to be released as well!
But that’s definitely not all. While the first disc has the movie the second one is jam packed full of special features! There are deleted scenes that are either extended scenes or just scenes dropped from the film for some reason or another but you will be able to experience these moments for the first time on blu-ray! And this doesn’t even scratch the surface for all the special features as there is a round table with director Ron Howard as they discuss at length how this film was brought to life on the silver screen. There are also two shot for shot breakdowns which would be the train heist as well as the chase that happens on Corellia. One of the special features that I didn’t even know was on the disc was the Millenium Falcon from Page to Park. This feature goes into detail on how the most iconic ship in the Star Wars universe had made its way from the design phase, to the silver screen and coming soon to Disney parks! The amount of special features that are packed onto this disc will keep casual fans and hardcore Star Wars folk alike coming back for more and more. One of my favorite parts of the disc has to be Scoundrels, Droids, Creatures and Cards: Welcome to Fort Ypso. This special feature breaks down not only on how this scene was shot but how to play the game called Sabaac. The object of the game is to get close to zero as possible with each of the cards being assigned a point value. At the end of your turn you must roll the dice and if the pictures match you must discard your hand and try to come up with a new one.
If you are a fan of the Star Wars series you need to get this on blu-ray as it has a ton of special features as well as some of the best sound and picture quality that is available. And there is also a 4K remaster of the movie for those that have high definition televisions so I strongly urge you to check this out.
