EA has just confirmed when their narrative-driven game, Sea of Solitude, will launch. The game will drop July 5th for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Which is good news, as until now it had a vague launch window of sometime in 2019.

The game will take us on a whirlwind of emotions with our young protagonist Kay. She will try to overcome, throughout the course of the game, her feelings of loneliness. The world we pass through is a reflection of her own mind, and it is a chaotic mess by the look of it. While battling her insecurities, we shall meet mythic monsters and help solve a variety of puzzles. All in the attempt to bring some ‘light’ into her rather dark world.

Jo-Mei’s CEO, the German development team that is working with EA, had this to say about the upcoming title. “Sea of Solitude centers on the essence of loneliness and tugs on the heartstrings of its players by mirroring their own reality. It’s by far the most artistic and personal project I’ve ever created, written during a very emotional time in my life…Designing characters based on emotions was a deeply personal achievement for our team and we’re so excited for players to soon experience Kay’s powerful story of self-discovery and healing.”

The game, as you can see from the trailer above, makes me think of the popular narrative driven game Journey by thatgamecompany. The game made me feel a host of emotions by merely diving through its world, and to this day remains in my top ten recommend games to play. That said, I’m pretty eager to try this game out and experience what it has to offer. I can only hope that EA doesn’t ruin it somehow as they are prone to in my opinion.
