Back in 2004 I remember seeing a trailer for a movie called Saw and it had piqued my interest as I am a fan of horror. The film for those who don’t remember followed a killer by the name of Jigsaw who put certain people in elaborate deathtraps. The victims try to get out of these situations however, they rarely do and die gruesome deaths. This later on became a franchise with eight films including one in 3D and one that was simply entitled Jigsaw.
However, as the franchise wore on people have lost interest in it as the sales of these films have been on the decline. Recently there have been some rumblings out of Hollywood that a new writer wants to take the Saw franchise in a new, darker direction.
And that writer is Chris Rock.
Yes, you heard me correctly the comedian that has been in such movies as Grown Ups, Madagascar and The Longest Yard. He has a new vision for this franchise? According to Mr. Rock “I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004, I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.”
Part of me thought of why is he trying to reboot / rewrite the Saw franchise and then it hit me.
Jordan Peele.
Jordan Peele was part of the comedy duo Key and Peele and then migrated to writing horror movies with his breakout hit Get Out followed by his recent success entitled Us. I am thinking that Mr. Rock wants to try and achieve the same status. But what do you think? Do you think that Chris Rock will do a great treatment of the Saw franchise or will this be a bad idea taken on by Lionsgate? Let us know! We love hearing from you.
