It is that time of the year again where the weather is hot, the skies are blue and every fan of comics, games and entertainment converge on San Diego for San Diego Comic Con! The whole event is massive as it spreads over five days and not only takes over the convention center but the surrounding areas as well. This series of articles is going to break up some of the exclusives and events planned for the convention and this section is what the convention is named for.. Comics! So let’s explore together what some of the major (and minor) companies have planned for this year’s SDCC.

Wonderland is something that we have grown up with as kids and the folks over at Zenescope have twisted it into a nightmare that few can ever wake up from. That is their theme going into this year’s SDCC and they have a new series entitled Revenge of Wonderland that is going to be released the DAY that SDCC starts! Also Grimm Fairy Tales: 2018 Cosplay Special will be released at the convention as well and there will be a few covers designed by talented artists Paul Green and Ula Mos. However, this special was originally released the week of the 11th so they may or may not have copies on hand so get there early to get a copy! Appearing and signing at the booth will be Zenescope writers/creators Joe Brusha (Grimm Fairy Tales, The Black Sable), Ralph Tedesco (Grimm Tales of Terror, Van Helsing Vs Robyn Hood), LaToya Morgan (Robyn Hood: The Hunt, Goddess Inc.), Dave Franchini (Belle: Beast Hunter), and Victoria Rau (Peek-A-Boo). And on Saturday July 21 st the company will also be celebrating “Christmas in July” where it will be releasing special edition holiday ornaments with artwork by superstar artist, J. Scott Campbell. On Thursday July 19th from 7:30 to 8:30 PM in Room 4, there will be a panel titled Not Just A Pretty Face – Women in Comics featuring panelists Latoya Morgan, writer of Shameless and Robyn Hood: The Hunt, Victoria Rau and writer of Peek-A-Boo. Also, they are having an event at Gelato Paradiso on Friday July 20th. DC Comics is going to have a massive presence this year at San Diego Comic Con as they are going to be launching their new service DC Universe. This digital subscription service will be unlike anything DC fans have ever seen as they will have access to movies, animated series and more. They are going to have an event over at the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter and you can pre-register for the event over at DCUniverseExperience.com . They are also going to have MORE than a few panels a this year’s SDCC and instead of chronicling every last one I strongly urge you to check out https://www.comic-con.org/cci/programming-schedule which lists the entire programming schedule however, make sure you check out Hall H on Saturday the 21st for the Warner Bros. Panel as there are going to be some major DC announcements. Not much is known about what DC is bringing to the table however, we do know that DC Collectibles will be selling three variant vinyl Batman statues. And last but definitely not least is the mighty Marvel Comics which always brings the thunder to San Diego but this year it seems that they are focusing less on the movies and more on TV and Animation. However, they are bringing along a ton of exclusives and some of these will be only announced at the show! What we do have are two variant edition comics and they are Cosmic Ghost Rider #1 and The Life of Captain Marvel ($25 and $10 each). Pins are coming back with a vengeance this year as you can get pin packs of the Fantastic Four, Avengers, X-Men and Villains to name a few for $25 a set. You can also purchase a blind two pack pin set for $15 each as they will have a myriad of designs from Deadpool to Ghost Rider. A Spiderman pin with lanyard can be bought for $15 each or you can also buy incentive pins for $10 each with such designs as Ms. Marvel and Lockjaw, Thanos or Galactus and Silver Surfer (although you need to spend $60 to purchase 1, $80 for 2 or $110 for all 3). T-Shirts, hats and even an infinity stone tumbler set are some of the other exclusives that you can buy but the cutest thing has to be the 8-bit Dr. Strange Hallmark ornament and you can get one of those for $13! Marvel also has more than a few events planned for this con and the best way to catch some of these is either tune into marvel.com or look at the live schedule. Believe me when I say you will need to keep an eye out for Marvel as they always come up with some things that are unplanned and at the last minute.

And there you have it! This is just one of a few articles I am releasing to keep you guys informed about all the great stuff coming out of San Diego, Keep it tuned into Comix Asylum for more news and exclusives!
