It is that time of the year again where the weather is hot, the skies are blue and every fan of comics, games and entertainment converge on San Diego for San Diego Comic Con! The whole event is massive as it spreads over five days and not only takes over the convention center but the surrounding areas as well. This series of articles is going to break up some of the exclusives and events planned for the convention and this section is all about those hard to score collectibles. Some people wait in line for hours in order to get their precious just like Gollum in Lord of the Rings. Here’s what San Diego has to offer the collectibles fan in all of us.

First let’s start with Hasbro as they have been a powerhouse for years now and this year they are not disappointing their audience. First if you are a Star Wars fan you need to check them out as they have at least four items that might be on your wish list. From the Star Wars Forces of Destiny you can get the Chewbacca and Porgs set as they are all soft and furry but will set you back around $49.99. Next they are chronicling the characters from the Doctor Aphra comic book series and you can get a limited edition set that has Doctor Aphra, BT-1 (or BeeTee) and 0-0-0 (or Triple Zero) for $49.99 as well. There is also going to be available a black series centerpiece featuring the battle between Kylo Ren and Rey at Starkiller base for $109.99 which will not only light up but have fog effects. And last but not least they are doing the Black Series Han Solo and the Mynoc from Empire Strikes Back at $39.99. If you love Marvel they have two sets that you cannot be without and the first is Marvel Legends Series Defenders Rail Authority 5-Pack. This set of figures has all of the iconic heroes (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Colleen Wing) in a subway car packaging for $124.99. The other offering is the Marvel Legends Series Red Skull Figure & Electronic Tesseract. This will come with not only a 6” Red Skull but a full size Tesseract that makes electronic sounds that will retail for $59.99. These are only SOME of the releases that are going to be at SDCC so you will want to get to their booth which is located at 3213 . There are also going to be a few panels and the Star Wars panel is on Friday July 20, 2018 1:00pm – 2:00pm located at room 7AB and the Marvel panel will be located at Saturday July 21, 2018 4:00pm – 5:00pm in room 25ABC.

One of the most notable companies that has high end collectibles is Sideshow Collectibles and this year they are bringing with them more than a few new releases. They are bringing the thunder with Thor Breaker of Brimstone premium format figure that looks absolutely incredible. Two other marvel releases will be Rogue from the X-Men and my favorite the Iron Man: Extremis armor! DC fans will also be getting some love with a new maquette of one of their most iconic villains and that is Doomsday. If you are a fan of the movie series the Terminator then you need to check out their Rebel Terminator and this is a premium format figure you will want on your shelf. J. Scott Campbell already has made a big splash with the Little Mermaid and now there is a hint of his latest creation which will be Alice in Wonderland. Aspen is another new addition based off the comic series Fathom and this figure stands a whopping 22” tall! Sideshow will also be releasing a few more entries in their Court of the Dead series. There are two new statuettes announced just in time for SDCC and they are Xiall – Osteomancer’s Vision and Kier – Valkyrie’s Revenge If you want to check out their booth and their awesome items they will be located at booth 1929

Mattel has always been synonymous with toys and they are bringing some great stuff that you can snag at this year’s SDCC. If you want to look stylish as you go around the convention center you need to snag the exclusive He-Man power belt. This doesn’t even look like a fanny pack as it has fur and looks like He-Man’s power belt and is available for $25. Next if you remember the 80’s and the figures from M.U.S.C.L.E. they are going to make a set of four based on classic WWF wrestlers! From Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Ultimate Warrior, Rowdy Roddy Piper and even Randy Macho Man Savage are just some of the great figures in this pack and it can be yours for $20! Also for the Marvel fans out there they are having a throwback to the 70’s and showcasing Thanos in a helicopter and this will be in tesseract packaging which will set you back $15. Star Wars fans will want to get their hands on the Porg Millenium Falcon battle rollers miniature as it can be snagged for as little as $10. There are also two great entries in the DC line and the first is a mockup of Action Comics #1 as Superman is picking up a car and that can be had for as low as $20. The second is an Aquaman figure pack called Aquaman Between Two Dooms which will feature Aquaman, The Ocean Master and Black Manta! This figure set looks amazing but will set you back $60. Also, Mattel is going to be hosting a panel on Friday July 20, 2018 12:30pm – 1:30pm in room 24ABC and this is the discussion of the future of the DC Multiverse line.

NECA makes some amazing items that fans would love to have in their homes and this year is no exception. First they are offering something that I have never seen sold at SDCC and that is a Groot chia pet! Yes you can own your own groot chia pet and it is a limited edition of 500 and can be yours for $30. Next we have an 8” Guillermo Del Toro Clothed action figure and this will come with a small notebook he used for Pan’s Labyrinth! This is limited to 2000 pieces and will retail for $40. Another entry in the Predator line and the last is the Hawkins 7” action figure that is limited to 3000 pieces and will be priced at $30. This figure is going to have over 20 points of articulation and a bunch of accessories including a submachine gun as well as a pistol and knife. The last two offerings are going to deal with the 1990’s version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles movies. The first is a collection of the four turtles and each of the figures are 7” tall and this will set you back $125 and is limited to 5000 pieces. However, the big granddaddy of them all is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 Movie) – Street Scene Diorama and Action Figure Set. This massive playset can fit up to 30 figures and also comes complete with the initial four figures as well! This will retail for $250 and is limited to 2000 pieces so if you want to pick up and and all of these exclusives head over to booth 3145 and grab ‘em all!

Mezco is going to have more than a few exclusives and the one I am excited to see is the Punisher Special Ops edition. This figure is more than worth it as it will have three different heads, eight interchangeable hands, an exclusive stand and adjustable posing post as well as a ton of ordnance ranging from a knife and hand grenades to a rocket launcher and a minigun! The website is already sold out so any chance of snagging one of these might be at SDCC. They are also offering a Batman Beyond figure in their One:12 range and this figure will have two interchangeable heads , six hands, three batarangs, a stand with an adjustable posing post and of course wings and booster effects as well. A living dead exclusive will also be made and that is Frozen Charlotte as this doll had an accident while ice skating and now is doomed to an eternal winter. These are just some of the great toys that Mezco has in store for you so swing by booth 3445 and check them out!

I’ve covered Quantum Mechanix in the past and they have always stressed quality over everything else. They are bringing three exclusives to the table and the first is a massive figure from the Harry Potter franchise. You can get Hagrid riding on his motorcycle with Harry in the sidecar. This gigantic piece will set you back $99.95 but it is completely worth it for the Harry Potter fans out there. Next up we have an adorable Deadpool slicing into a giant chimichanga with the words Maximum Effort in the background and this will set you back $29.95. And last but not least we have a face hugger holding up a sign that says free hugs for all the alien fans out there and that will cost you $19.95. Check out this and all the other great figures they have for sale over at booth 4145.

Super 7 is a company that is starting to make some amazing stuff and what they have for sale at this year’s SDCC is no exception. First they are revisiting the monsters of yesteryear with the SDCC Boodega Monstore Pop-Up Exclusive. There are going to be four figures you can choose from and they are $15 each and they are the mummy, wolfman, creature from the black lagoon and the metaluna mutant. Next if you love the ReAction figures they have an Alien – Hammerhead Tribute Xenomorph 3.75″ ReAction figure and it comes with an exclusive coin and that is $15 as well. Also available is a Transformers – Super Cyborg Optimus Prime 18″ Figure. This is a clear figure and has a removable chest plate but will set you back $75.
