Summertime.

While most people are headed towards the beaches, theme parks and other destinations there are some that are going to flock to San Diego. They aren’t going for the attractions or the weather they are going to attend San Diego Comic Con! This series of articles is a primer to the people who are going to the con and want a clear and concise offering of what is going to be available at the con this year. This section deals with the companies who give us great sights either on the small or silver screens.

AMC has been a big draw for years with their events in and around SDCC. They are going to have a big day on Friday, July 19th as they are going to have three panels happening in the iconic Hall H. The first is the Fear the Walking Dead panel from 12:00-1:00pm as the cast and crew will be discussing what is happening and the plans for the future of this show. Fans of the Walking Dead will not want to go far as from 1:00-2:00pm the Walking Dead panel happens at Hall H! The cast and crew will discuss the future of the Walking Dead and what will happen next between the Whispers and the survivors.  Later that evening from 4:45-5:35pm the next season of The Terror: Infamy panel will take place at Hall H. This next season is set during World War II as a horror has followed from Japan to haunt the people in the internment camp. Last but not least from 7:00-8:00pm in Hall H is the Preacher panel as the cast discusses the last season of Preacher and what will happen during the finale. On Saturday, July 20th from 5:30-6:30pm there will be a NOS4A2 panel that will not only include the cast and crew but author Joe Hill as well!

AMC will also be partnering with the Hilton Gaslamp Hotel (located at 4th Avenue and L street) and will be called “Deadquarters”. There are many things to see at this place including walking through curated sets from both The Walking Dead (the Winter Escape scene) and Fear the Walking Dead (the plane crash). Also, AMC is encouraging fans to dress up as walkers and this will take place at PetCo park on Saturday, July 20th with doors opening up at 9am. Anyone wanting to register is encouraged to go to ww.amc.com/horde. Also, taking place at “Deadquarters” are gaming events such as the new Walking Dead Onslaught VR game by Survios as you can experience this world first hand. Next games will be holding auditions for their “Become a Hero” contest for a chance to be inserted into their AR game The Walking Dead: Our World. FTX games is also hosting a giant 65” screen virtual slot machine in which people will be given three spins. If you are the lucky person at the top of the leaderboard you will win a year subscription to The Walking Dead Supply Drop. Also, FTX games will be demoing their new puzzle battle roleplaying game called The Walking Dead: Outbreak.

Netflix will have a booth at the show located at 4045 and they also will have two panels that they will be hosting in Hall H. The first is going to be about this up and coming show based on the video game franchise The Witcher. This is going to take place on Friday, July 19th from 2:15-3:00pm and will have the cast of the show (including Henry Cavill in the starring role). Also, on the same day and location at 3:30-5:15 Netflix will host a panel on their new prequel to the Dark Crystal called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. This looks to be an amazing show and fans of the original movie will not want to miss this.

ABC has been home to tons of great shows from the 80’s to today and this year they have a few limited editions you can buy from their booth! Located at 4245 there are more than a few items relating to Golden Girls (a pin set , t-shirts and a lithograph) a School House Rock plush based on the Bill and Law from that segment as well as a few different t-shirts. However, there are also two items that might sell out fast based on Marvel properties. There is going to be a Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wallet with badge and ID card and a Nick Fury Pager Money Clip with the Captain Marvel logo on it.  ABC will also be hosting three panels on Thursday, July 18th and the first is for the new show Emergence. This will take place from 3-4pm in the Indigo Ballroom and will feature a police chief who finds a child near the site of a mysterious accident. Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will have a panel hosted from 3:30pm-4:30 pm in Hall H as they will discuss what’s in store for the finale of season six and what’s upcoming for season seven. Stumptown is a new drama coming to ABC based off the graphic novel of the same name that follows Dex Parios. This former military veteran uses her skills as a PI however, she always finds herself at the wrong place at the wrong time. This will be happening in the Indigo ballroom between 4:15-5:15pm.

CBS will also have a lot going on this year as they have a booth at the convention located at 4237. You will want to stop by and get some stuff including pins from the new Star Trek shows as well as experience the bridge of the U.S.S. Discovery . There are also tons of stuff going on beyond the booth as there will be a few panels and events around San Diego as well. The first two events happen in Ballroom 20 as there are exclusive panels and screenings of two new shows. At 12:45-2:00pm is the new show Evil that focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who teams up with a priest in training as they investigate various cases based on the supernatural. At 2:00-3:15pm there is going to be a screening of the new Nancy Drew show which follows the teenage detective trying to solve crimes with help from the living and the dead. One of the biggest draws is going to take place Saturday, July 20th in Hall H from 11:30-1:00pm and that is the enter the Star Trek universe panel. This panel will not only host the Star Trek: Discovery show but also two new shows as well! Star Trek: Lower Decks is going to be an animated series as well as Star Trek: Picard which will star Sir Patrick Stewart! There are also shuttles that you can take around San Diego including a free “fright-seeing” tour on Thursday and Friday nights. They are also bringing Carpool Karaoke to the convention as well in Space J at the Petco park so bring your best performance to win some cool prizes. And last but not least there is going to be a Twilight Zone Experience at Petco Park that runs the course of the convention from Thursday to Sunday.

There are two big annoucements that have been not talked about and those are Marvel and Disney+ . As of this writing there haven’t been any leaks about what they are bringing to Hall H as we are going to get some major news on Phase 4 for Marvel and more info on what Disney+ will be bringing to their home network. We do know that Marvel is hosting a panel on Saturday, July 20th in Hall H from 5:15-6:45pm hosted by Kevin Feige. Once we do get word of what will be coming out of San Diego we will be doing specialized articles based on these properties.

Shudder is also making an appearance at SDCC and they will be located at 4020. At the time of writing this article however, no special events have been named so I have no idea what they will be bringing to San Diego as well.

And last but not least we have the mighty Warner Brothers however, this year they are not bringing any of the DC properties to the show. So if you expected to see a trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 you are out of luck this year. They are going to have a booth set up in the convention center and you can check them out at 4545. There are going to be more than a few panels and popups that will run throughout the course of the convention so let’s start with the popups. They will host Scarediego on Wednesday, July 17th that will feature a few movies such as It: Chapter 2. This event will be held at the Horton Grand Theatre (located at 444 Fourth Ave) and starts at 8:30pm and the best thing? You can attend this by purchasing tickets and not having an SDCC badge to enter! Also across the street at the Omni hotel there will be two exhibits that you can play in. You can step into Ryme City in the world of Detective Pikachu that will show off props, photo ops and more. The other event is the Chilladelphia Winter Carnival that was featured in the movie Shazam! You will be able to play games, win prizes and pose for photos and both open Wednesday night and runs through Sunday. There are also going to be a few premieres and panels starting on Thursday, July 18th with the Batman Beyond 20th Anniversary panel. This panel will celebrate this new take on the Batman genre as well as have some surprise announcements and prizes in Hall H. The next panel is Horror Times Two: Critters Attack! and the Banana Splits movie. This panel will discuss these upcoming films from 4:30-50pm in 6DE. There is also going to be at the Horton Grand Theatre a world premiere of the Shazam documentary. This will take place from 6-7:00pm and features comic writers as well as the stars of the 2019 film. Last event of the day is the world premiere of the Banana Splits movie from 10:00-11:30pm. You will be able to see the stars of these classic characters as they run haywire as they inflict torture and mayhem on their fans. On Friday, July 19th there will be a world premier of the Batman: Hush animated movie that takes place in Ballroom 20. There are going to be two screenings both from 7:15-9:15pm and 9:30-11:00pm so you will not want to miss it. On Saturday, July 20th there will be Scooby-Doo’s 50th Birthday Bash from 12:30-1:30pm in 6A. You will be able to experience the transformation from a small cartoon series to the silver screen adaptations with various showrunners and stars of the franchise. On Sunday, July 21st there are three premieres and they are Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island (10:15-11:45am in 6BCF), Teen Titans Go! Vs Teen Titans (12:00-2:00pm in 6BCF) and Lego DC: Batman: Family Matters (2:15-4:15pm in 6BCF).
