Summertime.

While most people are headed towards the beaches, theme parks and other destinations there are some that are going to flock to San Diego. They aren’t going for the attractions or the weather they are going to attend San Diego Comic Con! This series of articles is a primer to the people who are going to the con and want a clear and concise offering of what is going to be available at the con this year. This section deals with the conventions namesake the comics that people young and old love to read.

Starting off with a bang we have the folks over at Marvel who are located at booth 2329 and are going to have a ton of panels but also a great number of exclusives this year. The exclusives are amazing and they range from shirts in various designs for $28 each. These shirts are awesome ranging from “I went to Comic Con and all I got was this lousy t-shirt” with Deadpool to an adorable “I love you 3000” shirt with various arc reactors. Also, the folks over at Marvel will have a few pin sets for $30 and they are Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spiderverse and X-Men as these sets will have 4-5 pins each. There are also blind bags that consist of two pins for $15 as well as a lanyard with Thanos for the same price. If you purchase a set amount of pins you can also purchase limited pins for $15 each (choose from Deadpool, Venom / Spiderman or Mister Fantastic and Doctor Doom.) Also, for sale are comic variants which are Black Cat #1 ($10), Avengers #21 Mondo Variant ($15), Uncanny X-Men #21, Miles Morales #8 and Captain Marvel #7 ($25 each). Last but not least there is going to be an Iron Man arc reactor lanyard with the saying “proof that Tony Stark has a heart” for $20.

DC has a lot planned for their convention as well as there are tons of panels to attend based off the comics and their new subscription service DC Universe. However, the comic giant is going to be giving away SETS of exclusive comics for FREE during the convention. Yes you heard right! If you head over the booth located at 4545 you will be able to pick up four comics which are Young Justice: Outsiders #1, Saga of the Swamp Thing #21, Detective Comics #1000 and Doom Patrol #19. However, this will make a few people sad that will not be at the convention as they will miss out on this opportunity. Well you are in luck! If you are currently NOT a subscriber of DC Universe they will ship a set of these books to your door! And believe me with the animated Harley Quinn show they have in the works as well as the great programming they have on there already it is clearly worth it to get a subscription. They are also going to be offering prints done by various creators throughout the span of the convention so make sure you check back to them daily as there is no clue what they could have to offer!

The folks over at Skybound NEVER disappoint and they are going to have some amazing comics and collectibles for sale at the con. If you go over to their booth located at 1915 here are some of the things that you can buy. For $192 (yes you heard right) you can buy a signed and professionally graded copy of the Walking Dead #192 (and it is signed both by Charlie Adlard and Robert Kirkman). There is also going to be a Walking Dead Eyes without a face print set for $120 done by the artist Jason Edmiston that features close ups of some amazing characters from the comic. There are also going to be four shirts for sale based off the Walking Dead (a tribute to Rick Grimes, Tell Tales Games) and a new comic called Excellence for $25 each. If you love pins they also have you covered with a variety of styles for $10 each based off The Walking Dead, Redneck, Outer Darkness, Murder Falcon and Excellence. If you love to skate they will be offering four unique decks based off amazing images from the Walking Dead at $60 each. There are also going to be two sets of toys which are the Die Die Die stealth pack complete with Volume 1 of the TPB for $50. The other is we are actually getting a Super Dinosaur set! This is going to be limited to 500 sets and features both Derek Dynamo and Super Dinosaur so if you are a fan you need to get there early and pick these up!

Zenescope will have 30 brand new, limited edition exclusive comics on hand to appease both expert and novice collectors throughout Comic Con weekend (at booth #2301).  These highly collectible variant covers will feature incredible artwork by superstar artists Elias Chatzoudis, Paul Green, David Nakayama, Eric “EBAS” Basaldua, Dawn McTeigue, and many others. Aside from Zenescope’s comics, graphic novels, and box sets, the company will also be debuting new merchandise that includes a Growler & Pint Glass Set, limited edition pins and Zenescope branded metal cards. Customers who make a purchase at the booth will be entered into a raffle to win a special edition gold-plated Sela Mathers (Snow White) Collectible Figure among other great prizes. On Thursday July 18, 2019, Zenescope will be hosting a panel discussion titled, “The Future is Grim(m): A Celebration of Dark Fantasy in Pop Culture” from 7:30-8:30 PM PDT in Room 4. Panel host, Chris Samson, and panelists Ralph Tedesco (Zenescope co-founder and writer), Nick Bermel (Dragonsblood), Victoria Rau (Peek-A-Boo), and Sam Sawyer (Lady Death), will discuss and celebrate the shadowy mirror of dark fantasy in popular culture and entertainment.
