The Terror 107 – Horrible From Supper

Last week’s episode of The Terror had some real twists and turns as one of the men had gone insane and not only set fire to himself but the carnival as well. Many of the men perished in the fire and this week’s episode Horrible From Supper starts on a somber note. Captain Francis Crozer converses with Captain James Fitzjames and notes that the first miles are going to be the hardest since some of the crew from both the Terror and the Erebus are trekking out onto the ice in order to find help.

However, as we see them pack things on the boats for the trek we realize that more than the essentials are being taken. Glasses made of fine china are being packed aboard the boats and while it may seem small any ounce can make or break the boats that are being hauled across the ice. Captain Francis Crozier addresses the men that are staying behind as he gives them direction on where to go and what to do. He tells them if they are not back by September 1st to go on without them. The Captain would rather some of his men die than all of them and in the next scene he writes in the log that he is abandoning the Terror. Captain James Fitzjames walks the halls one last time with Thomas Blanky as they both reminisce about the times spent aboard this vessel. As they leave Captain Francis Crozier barks out “Give the order Leftenant Irving” as he shouts “Forward men!”

The trek across the ice has begun.

As we come back we see that the expedition is currently stuck in the snow as a team is trying to dig it out. Captain Francis has figured out that Lieutenant Little has come this way so this is a good sign. Later on the crew has made camp and Dr Henry Goodsir is approached by one of the crew. One of them is stricken with guilt as he missed the carnival as he did not want to go to it. However, he is forcing himself to be out here and he can’t stop smelling the charred bodies that were at the carnival. Feeling a great wave of remorse he breaks down and cries on the doctor’s shoulder and we now have to wonder is he going to be an asset or a liability?

What waits on the ice for the crews of these ships? And will they have enough rations to make it towards some sort of civilization? Tune into this week’s episode of The Terror and for more information go to http://www.amc.com/shows/the-terror/ and get ready to walk across the frozen wasteland.
