The Terror 103 – The Ladder
“It’s just the ice Georgie.” That is how the third episode of The Terror starts as two of the crew are out on deck looking out at the white expanse. As we go back down into the Terror we look on as one of the crew is handling some of the totems that the inuit was carrying on him. All of the artifacts are gathered and handed to the female that was accompanying him but she glares up at them knowing something is amiss. Did someone take one of the totems? We currently do not know but we do know she goes out onto the ice and draws a circle. What is she up to?
A flashback is the next scene as it goes between Sir John’s wife and his conversation with another admiral of the HMS. The admiral asks him simply if he has a plan of rescue and Sir John scoffs at this. Meanwhile his wife tells him that he will have a great voyage and will discover a new passage on this expedition as she gifts him with a monkey for his trip. As we cut back to the admiral who is addressing Sir John he admonishes him with a warning on what his crew will do to each other during this voyage. They will tear each other apart if he cannot come up with a viable solution to this dilemma. However, Sir John had mentioned that he has enough food for three years and up to five.
Back on the HMS Terror Sir John Franklin and Captain Francis Crozier are in an argument on how to send out eight men onto the ice. The discussion is to head up an expedition not only to find a way out of the ice but to see what is out there. It is met with utter resistance as Sir John Franklin does not want to lose any more of his men and wants to find a way out of the mess that he has been thrust into.
Will Captain Francis listen to the commander of the Terror or will he go against his wishes? What about Lady of Silence? What are her plans for the crew of both the Terror and the Erebus?
