Marvel’s Daredevil 312 – One Last Shot

Agent Nadeem faces some heat on the home front when his wife unleashes her frustration on him. The ravages of Wilson Fisk’s reign of terror have not only taken a toll on the criminal element of the city but on the personal lives of those who stand up to him as well. One Last Shot features some long awaited reunions, one being Vanessa re-entering Fisk’s life and the other is Nelson and Murdock reuniting as a team.

Vanessa’s hold on Fisk, her ability to bring all his vulnerabilities to the surface makes her an interesting addition to the final episodes of Season 3. Her power over him is in stark contrast to the iron grip the Kingpin has over New York and its denizens. Fisk’s willingness to please her combined with Vanessa’s soft touch helps to keep him at bay. Even though there is a lack of fulfilment in their relationship on her part she’s not ready to cut ties with Fisk. She’s just as complicit as he is and her acceptance of their relationship makes her an accomplice to his crimes.

Shunned by his wife, Nadeem falls into the waiting arms of the Justice system. After a heartfelt plea from Foggy, D.A. Tower meets with Nadeem who spills the beans on what he knows about Fisk. Rejection also slaps Agent Pointdexter in the chops when he appeals to Fisk to make amends for his failure to kill Karen. Fisk’s realization that Pointdexter is on shaky ground does nothing for the troubled assassin’s confidence and pushes him even closer to the edge.

Karen makes some moves of her own and approaches Mitchell Ellison to help her out. Still refusing to divulge Matt’s alter ego, she reveals that the man in the red suit is Agent Pointdexter. While Ellison is still digesting that bit of news, Karen asks for one last favor, the opportunity to use the Bulletin’s reach to share what she knows with the masses.

When Fisk deduces that Nadeem is going to testify against him it sets off a tense and entertaining race against time to get the disgraced FBI agent to the courthouse safely. That coupled with Karen hitting the airwaves to expose Fisk’s gambit to control New York’s underworld sets things in motion against the Kingpin of Crime until Matt realizes that Fisk has all the angles covered.

One Last Shot explores the personal cost exacted on those who stand up for what they believe in. Nadeem, Matt, Karen and Foggy have all had their lives ripped apart in their pursuit of Fisk. Even Vanessa and Fisk have paid a price, living in an ivory tower cut off from the rest of the world. What’s left is to determine whether the sacrifice was worth it. When competing sides clash and following the rule of law fails, it falls on the justice of the streets to fill restore order – something Matt has been seeking all season long.
