Marvel’s Daredevil 305 – The Perfect Game

An empty cab being pulled out of the Hudson River is the last bit of news Wilson Fisk is ready for. Knowing that Matt Murdock survived the attempt on his life, Fisk now has to worry that his nemesis may be coming after him with renewed vigor. Realizing that he’ll need to take a different approach to keeping Murdock at bay, Fisk uses his relationship with the FBI to have them do his dirty work for him.

The FBI’s dragnet to capture Murdock snares Karen and leads to Nadeem grilling her for intel in Matt’s apartment. Off balance at first Karen soon finds her footing and goes on the offensive instructing Nadeem to lay off Matt and to look into Fisk’s fixer, Felix Manning and the Kingpin’s corrupt business dealings. Karen exposes the bureau’s weaknesses regarding Fisk and the notion doesn’t sit well with Nadeem.

Always keeping his feet moving, Fisk digs into Agent Pointdexter’s past. Rifling through the troubled agent’s medical records Fisk gains valuable insight into the agent’s strengths, weaknesses and triggers. The files, revealed in the form of flashbacks, paint a sympathetic character blessed with an incredible set of skills, teetering for most of his life on the edge of madness.

The Perfect Game not only refers to a pivotal moment in Pointdexter’s past but Fisk’s gambit to take some of the heat off himself and give the city someone else to direct their rage against.  Speaking of gambits, one of Matt’s plans brings Foggy into the scope of Nadeem’s investigation.

The continued inquiry into Matt Murdock has some unintended consequences. It creates some tense moments for Karen and she enlists Foggy as council before she bares her soul. Much to her new lawyer’s surprise, she reveals that the ongoing investigation will uncover the fact that she was the one who killed one of Fisk’s former allies, James Wesley.

For an episode that’s incredibly light on Matt Murdock screen time his stake in the narrative has gone through the roof. With Pointdexter on the precipice of becoming one of Daredevil’s iconic villains and Matt now a fugitive of the law, The Perfect Game has all of the chess pieces in place for Season 3 to really take off.
