Marvel’s Daredevil 303 – No Good Deed

The aftershocks of Fisk’s freedom dominates the majority of No Good Deed. From Karen to Foggy to Matt himself, Fisk’s release shatters the foundations of their worlds eliciting a range of reactions from those who’ve been touched by the Kingpin of Crime’s wide shadow of evil.  The episode begins with everyone on edge, especially in the aftermath of the attempt on Fisk’s life. Even the newly tranquil Fisk gets his own personal earthquake when word drops that the love of his life, Vanessa has dropped off everyone’s radar.

Karen’s love life is the focus of an awkward evening at her boss, Mitchell Ellison’s house. When the evening turns out to be a set up with a dude named Jason, Karen is at first annoyed but soon settles into the evening. When news breaks that Fisk has been released Karen is keen to follow up on it until Ellison forbids her to do so.

Meanwhile Foggy is tormented by Matt’s loss. His stoic demeanor in previous episodes masked the horror he feels losing his closest friend. Matt has his own demons to slay, particularly the ones residing in his head. When he becomes aware that Fisk is on the outside, his conscience takes the form of his arch nemesis and pours on the guilt, reinforcing just how damaged Matt’s psyche really is.

Agent Pointdexter gets some of the spotlight in No Good Deed as well. Still unsettled at losing so many colleagues and facing the ravages of his job, he struggles to hold onto his own sanity. His unique skill set also bring him to the attention of the Kingpin of Crime. With Pointdexter’s weaknesses exposed and Fisk’s penchant for getting what he wants it’s only a matter of time before the embattled FBI agent is drawn further into the Kingpin’s orbit.

No Good Deed raises some moral questions and some of the answers aren’t pretty. Is Matt’s quest for vengeance justified? Is making a deal with a crime lord to bring down other criminals the just thing to do? Difficult questions indeed and how the series sets out to resolve them will be interesting especially now that Daredevil’s presence has been brought to Fisk’s attention. Let the games begin.
