Fear the Walking Dead 412 – Weak

Stranded and separated from the others by the storm, June is filled with regret when she watches one of Althea’s old videos of John. Finally realizing that John’s love for her is the real deal, she allows her true emotions to come to the surface. Out of fuel and water, the circumstances June and Althea find themselves in is bleak. To make matters worse, the battery powering their walkie is also on a low ebb and a lack of supplies has Althea in a shaky state of health.

Meanwhile, Morgan makes his way back to the rest of the gang with his new travelling buddies. The foursome seems to be bonding a little as Sarah even has a new nickname for Morgan – one that he despises by the way. During a brief stop to remove an impaled walker from the front grill of their rig, Morgan picks up a faint message over his walkie. Concerned that someone may need help, he convinces Sarah that they need to wait for him while he goes for a walk to see if he can get a clearer signal. His investigation soon leads him to the strange woman from the end of last week’s episode who has a strange affinity for a particular walker with “Take what you need,” written over its face. The woman offers Morgan a strange warning and then proceeds to fill water bottles for the roadside care packages with contaminated water.

Things go even further downhill for Althea and June when they decide to leave the armored van behind to search for supplies. They luck out and find a truck to facilitate their quest but are shocked to see Althea’s van race by them. Getting sicker by the minute but unwilling to let her prized possessions slip through her fingers, Althea picks up the chase until a flat tire interrupts their pursuit. Physically unable to continue on foot and with her medication in the van, Althea sends a reluctant June off to recover the van when gunfire from the vehicle is heard in the distance. When June catches up to the man who stole Althea’s van she gets a look into past versions of herself before realizing that there’s no medicine to recover after all.

Weak delves into what makes Althea tick and the reason why she’s so attached to her van and the contents inside. With the world crumbling around them people resort to different methods in a bid to survive and hold on to what mattered to them before society’s fall. When a chance to meet up with Morgan arises, Althea’s initial decision to remain with her van and let June go ahead on her own shows just how important the things that keep people sane in the face of despair can be. Sometimes memories or physical tokens are the only things that make surviving to see a new day a possibility.

Fear the Walking Dead continues to rebuild its world with new characters and new dimensions added to the ones already established on the show. It also pulls back the curtain on an interesting new big bad who collects walkers to do her bidding. Bringing more chaos to an already chaotic world seems to be her goal and she’s determined to achieve it one new walker at a time.
