Fresh off Mike’s ride in the Bat Copter last week the boys were back at the Secret Stash when a customer arrived with some vintage Hungerford Peanuts dolls from the late 50’s. The conversation then turned to Peanuts and who at the Stash best symbolizes a particular character from the strips and cartoons. The vintage toy fest continued as another customer arrived with an extremely rare toy that peaked Walt’s interest and had him fondly recalling his childhood days. The object of interest was a Kresge-Carded Mego Wolf-Man doll from 1974 complete with some unique packaging that was exclusive to the Mego dolls sold at Kresge’s, the predecessor of K-Mart.

One of the highlights of the episode was Kevin Smith and his chat with the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner. They talked about Star Trek, what keeps Mr. Shatner going and one of his upcoming comic book projects. Shatner’s 90’s novel, Man-O-War has been adapted into a cinematic graphic novel and is being presented in a format that is new to the medium. As Shatner explains, “It’s a comic book, it’s an animated film but it’s neither. It’s somewhere in between and it’s a reading experience as well.” Shatner also marveled at Star Trek’s longevity and the fact that the property will be turning 50 in a few months. It was a treat watching Kevin Smith and William Shatner, two of the most engaging speakers around talk about Shatner’s career and geek culture in general. It’s a reminder that we are living in the golden age of geek and should celebrate it in all of its glory.
