Comic Book Men 510 “Tell ‘Em Jim Lee!”

Comic book legend Jim Lee drops by as a guest on the podcast, a classic comic book elicits the ultimate commitment, and a replica sword from an 80’s movie gem highlight an entertaining and informative episode of Comic Book Men.

Romance was in the air when a customer came into The Stash looking for a copy of The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21. The annual, published in 1987, featured the wedding between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. After sealing the deal on the comic, the customer went on bended knee to propose to his girl friend.

Another customer arrives with an interesting item from one of the most beloved movies of the 80’s, The Princess Bride. The item in question was an Inigo Montoya replica sword created in 2010. Walt is less than impressed with the sword and the movie, particularly due to the fact that it doesn’t have robots or time travel, but Ming and Bryan step up to make the sale happen.

The highlights of the episode were the podcast segments with Jim Lee. One of the great things about Comic Book Men is the show’s ability to reveal what the great writers and artists are like away from work. Jim Lee’s tales of his comic book idols, getting into the industry and what it’s like to work on comics were fun to listen to. Listening to Lee allows viewers to realize that even industry giants derive their love of comics from the same place as their fans.

Tell ‘Em Jim Lee is a great episode. Lee’s appearance cast some light on what goes on behind the scenes in comics and his tales, along with the collectibles that were featured in the episode highlight the significance comics and pop culture plays in people’s lives.
