The folks over at Netflix have a knack for bringing certain shows to life. One of the shows that I was skeptical about was Lemony Snickets: A Series of Unfortunate Events as I remember the Jim Carrey movie and I really didn’t care for it. However, when I started watching this show on Netflix I found myself falling in love with this story all over again as it is being told the way that it should be. So what is in store the Baudelaires this season? Here is a Season 2 primer to get you started but please note I have tried to leave out major spoilers of this show. I want to get you in the mood to either experience it for the first time or to get you caught up on the second season.

When we last left the Baudelaires they were going to be enrolled in The Austere Academy where the slogan there is Memento Mori (which means “Remember you will die”) and the whole school is laid out by this. The Baudelaires are treated like dirt of course as they are the newest members of the school and have to live life in a shack that is infested with crabs. They also meet up with another group of orphans that are just a boy and a girl as the baby boy perished in the fire. These are Isadora and Duncan Quagmire and they will share in adventures as the season progresses. The only thing I could not stand about the first two episodes was a recurring character named Carmelita Spats. There were times when she was on screen I wanted horrible things to happen to her such as being drawn and quartered or placed in an iron maiden.

The rest of the season puts the children in various locations such as a swanky uptown apartment where things are either in or out. This was a great part of the story as you can see how things rapidly change from not even day to day but hour to hour as something that was once cool is now…not. The Vile Village is next which is a remote village out in the middle of nowhere inhabited by villagers who have a long, complex list of rules to follow. After that was the hospital in which the Baudelaires try to escape from a doctor Count Olaf. Finally they arrive at the Carnivorous Carnival where they try to fit in as freaks in order to get to the bottom of things. The season ends on a major cliffhanger that only begs the question: When is the next season being released?

Like I said previously I wanted to keep all the juicy details vague so when you watch Season Two you will be pleasantly surprised. If you haven’t watched the first season and this sounds like your cup of tea I implore you to watch it and get ready for a roller coaster ride.
