The First Fan-Owned Comic Book Studio is Here: PopCultivator
Comic Book Publisher, former Marvel Editor, Toy Company Founder, Best-Selling Kids Comic Artist and More Team to Create New Venture
CHICAGO 12/2/2020: PopCultivator, a new comic book studio assembling an all-star team of pop culture pros kicks off its public offering today through equity crowdfunding platform, WeFunder, where fans may invest for as low as $100.
Its mission to create a library of diverse comic content whereby the fans can share in the rewards by owning a piece of the company, and thereby part of the intellectual property it controls. PopCultivator is working with several publishers, licensees and manufacturers as it develops new comics.
PopCultivator is helmed by veteran comic book publisher, creator and retro brand-revitalizer Josh Blaylock (Devil’s Due Comics) as CCO/CEO, Mike Horn (Palisades Toys, Cubles) as Chief Development Officer, COO Stuart Bernstein, Shawn DePasquale (Bunnyears.com) as Director of Entertainment Development & Story Editor, Kit Caoagas as Director of Talent Management, and more.
The company will use a combination of original work-for-hire development, for comics it owns outright, as well as collaborations with talent for creator-owned content. Deciding the best publishing solution and partner for each property on a case-by-case basis.
Joining its initial line-up of comic creators developing original content is animation designer and long time Scholastics comics’ Dog Man and Captain Underpants contributor Jose Garibaldi, who is developing middle grade to YA titles in Ruby DIY and History Written by Victor. Garibaldi is known in Hollywood animation circles for designing several popular animated characters including Casey Jones for Nickelodeon’s CGI animated TMNT, and characters for Lego Movie 2.
Former X-Men editor and G.I.Joe, Dresden Files writer Mark Powers and Webtoons artist Hoyt Silva (Mongrel) are also slated to develop original content with the company, along with designer toy-turned-video game Ninjatown creator, Shawn Smith.
PopCultivator’s stance is that, seeing record growth in product crowdfunding categories like Kickstarter, the next evolution of comic book crowdfunding moves from backing physical and digital products to participating in ownership in the intellectual property itself.
Fans of comics and pop culture are publicly welcome to join us on this ride at www.wefunder.com/popcultivator
