Pokemon teams up with…Drew Barrymore?

While it’s not uncommon to have celebrities help advertise a clothing companies goods, or push out a name brand, it’s a bit odd to have a gaming company use this tactic. Thus my amusement and confusion was aroused due to a unique move on Nintendo’s part, making actress Drew Barrymore their “brand ambassador” for Pokemon’s fashion efforts.
What am I seeing?
The actress went so far as to have, as part of Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, an afternoon Soiree party at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood.
While Barrymore herself gave multiple reasons as to why she wanted to join Pokemon’s team, ranging from the “playfulness and fun” in Pokemon’s fashion to wanting to figure out “how to translate Pokemon’s outfits into the world”.
I would think it’s because we haven’t seen the actress in anything worthwhiled since Charlies Angels, but who knows.
Nintendo itself has yet to comment as to the why in regards to their hiring of Barrymore, but to the skeptic in me I feel as if it was a desperate grab at some attention for the company. That said, it makes my heart ache that Nintendo has to use such tactics.
