Pocket Morty is Mobile Pokemon For The Gamer On The Go

It’s almost painful to see a company get beat out on a concept that is obviously their own, and yet here is Nintendo getting smacked around by a stripped down version of our beloved game Pokemon. This beat down comes in the form of a clone based version of the repeatedly beloved game, and is brought to us by Adult Swim. It’s called Pocket Morty’s, and is tearing a hole through the iOS and Andriord charts.

The surprising hit game is based on a late night cartoon show, the premise surrounding an alcoholic scientist (Rick) and his perpetually nervous grandson (Morty) and their crazy adventures in a very weird sci-fi world wherein which Morty’s life is constantly in peril. The trend seems to continue in Pocket Morty’s, where Rick and Morty open up portals to other dimensions and battle other Ricks who are in control of other versions of Morty. The end goal of which is to beat the grand council of Ricks, and gain access to our portal gun to make our way home.

For those of you who haven’t figured it out yet, the various Morty’s you will encounter are the Pokemon of this world, and our goal is to beat up all down and catch them. They vary in nature, allowing for different specialties to be born. This ranges from Buff Morty, to Aqua Morty, and even a Mew two type Morty called Psychokinetic Morty. It’s important to note however that with a variety of different types of Morty’s comes a variety of different weaknesses to look out for, as all Morty’s except your original have an elemental type weakness. On top of that, a cool leveling up feature exists when you can also combine the same type of Morty’s to evolve them into stronger versions of themselves.a6f224a3a81e7e139a4de96259a413e6

The game will have you roaming around town, in which what is essentially a Pokemon Centre exists, and entering into ‘Gym’ fights. Wherein you will have to enter a portal that will have you navigate a maze of other Morty trainers and then proceed to beat the Rick that rules the area.b4ee659484dd99e468919ca6ec520902

That seems to be all there is to this wanna be version of Pokemon, and yet it is so darn successful. This is likely due to Nintendo’s completely disregard for what fan’s have been wanting for years. A mobile version of Pokemon that they can play on the go. Despite numerous years of waiting, and what feels like hundreds of different versions of Pokemon coming out for a variety of handheld Gameboys, we have yet to gain a mobile version. That said, if this ridiculous version of the hit game is picking up so much hype, one can only speculate how successful a real version would be.

In all honesty, I’m surprised no one has decided to steal Nintendo’s thunder sooner than this and I say “shame on Nintendo” for letting it happen at all. That aside, go check out Pocket Morty guys for a little bit of fun.
