Overwatch Competitive Play Still Coming Soon

There’s nothing more fun than putting your friends in place when playing a good video game. Unless your online putting virtual strangers in their place, and taking the number one ranking world wide.

Overwatch, the recently released FPS by Blizzard, is scheduled to release their competitive gameplay mode later this month. For gamers, nothing could be more exciting. As currently the game only offers a small variety of modes, this was both wanted and needed for the very successful game.

cjyepvliqrxjoqna5gbrThe developers over at Overwatch confirmed the upcoming Competitive Play mode after an errant fan started asking whether the mode would be introduced soon. It’s important to note that the companies initial response was that the studio would be aiming for a “mid-to-late July” release of the update. However the annouced release date was a mistake, the company going on to apologize and state that the game mode will come be coming in June:

Blizzard went on to state that they had held back on the competitive mode during the initial launch due to some redesign issues. A designer over at the company, Jeff Kaplan, had this to say: “We worked extremely hard to get competitive play in the game for closed beta…We’ve been reading feedback from the community and taking it all to heart. As a result, we’ve temporarily disabled competitive play for open beta so that we can rework the system and make it better.”

Overwatch’s competitive play mode was part of the game’s beta, allowing players at level 25 or higher to rank up through a series of divisions and tiers. Their upward progression allowed them to rank up and unlock new rewards, such as sprays, player icons, and voice lines.

A word of warning though for those of you who tend to rage quit in the middle of a game going bad, a penalty system is in place for those who bow out in the middle of a match. Those who abandon games lose their compleition percentage at first, and once it drops below a certain threshold, they will recieve a warning. The real doozy comes when they continue to leave games to early, wherein players are docked 75 percent of the collected experience in future games.

So don’t quit guys.

And get ready to lose to me online.
