In 1968 George A. Romero came up with one of the most iconic pieces of cinema that was entitled Night of the Living dead. This movie was so popular it spawned two sequels which were Dawn and Day of the Dead and he always had to follow up with another release in the series. In 2005 the fans were given a final entry in the series entitled Land of the Dead. Now the folks over at Shout Studios have released a 4k collectors edition of Land of the Dead but is this a release worth adding to your collection?

For the uninitiated the story behind Land of the Dead deals with a society called Fiddler’s Green as it is divided between the have and the have nots. It focuses on a group that runs a highly armed and armored vehicle called Dead Reckoning. These people run out for supplies and medicine and other supplies when other people are safe behind the walls of this community. For some this is a paradise and others it is a living hell as life is cheap and short as these people risk their lives for the upper class as they want a taste of the good life. This story also focuses on zombies as they are adapting and evolving into another species as some of them are starting to learn and remember things when they were alive. This is a fitting swan song for the dead films as it shows us the world that is completely overrun by the dead.

This release has three (yes, you heard me right) three discs as the first one is a 4k remaster of the unrated version of the film, the second disc contains a regular high definition remaster of the unrated version and the third disc contains the theatrical version. And of course this would not be complete without special features and there are more those than zombies at your local mall! From audio commentary from the actors and directors including Romero himself to various featurettes, deleted scenes, trailers , photo galleries and more! There is even a featurette entitled “When Shaun met George” as Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright visit the set of Land of the Dead.

Whether you have seen the movie over and over or are just discovering it for the first time, this collectors edition of Land of the Dead from Shout Studios is definitely one worth adding to your collection.
