Nintendo NX: It’s about content, not power.
Nintendo’s future in the game world is shrouded in nothing but mystery and slight peril, as they have yet to convince the gaming world that their newest console, the Nintendo NX, is something to look forward too. The gaming community has been speculating from left to right about what the console will have to offer – and if it will be worth the buy.
Meanwhile Nintendo has remained silent in regards to this subject, even going so far as to not debut their console at this years E3.
A representative of IGN tried to ask Nintendo about the future of their console – especially given the daunting power of the upcoming Scorpio system from Microsoft but Sony’s newest PS4 – and was wondering whether the newest console from Nintendo would be capable of pushing the same type of powerful graphics engine.
Nintendo – in its newest mantra – had no real response to this question, stating instead that: “For us, it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content…We’re focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean.”
So if we’re reading correctly, the system probably won’t have the craziest graphics available to date.
While not necessarily a bad statement made by Nintendo, in fact many gamers would prefer content over quality, its not exactly a realistic outlook on the gaming community as a large anymore. The fact of the matter is that more of up and coming gamers aren’t willing to play anything other than ‘stellar’ graphic games. There are children being brought up on the crispness of the 1080p setting – and don’t quite understand the allure of the cartoonish Zelda esque and Mario like figures that bounce around on Nintendo’s screen. This is essentially why the Wii U, a fine system in its own right, couldn’t quite compete with the other two console systems.
It just wasn’t up to snuff.
Where Nintendo will go with their newest system is anyone’s guess, but I hope it’s to the stars instead of as a figment of my childhood memories.
