As people flock to the beaches, amusement parks and county fairs to usher in another great summer vacation, tons of fans are going to San Diego for this year’s Comic Con! The folks over at Marvel have been hard at work and will be releasing some big news however, we already got some amazing info from the animation side that are going to be appearing on Disney+.
First off we got some information about the newest animated Spider-Man series entitled Spider-Man Freshman Year and this takes place BEFORE the character is introduced into the MCU. This looks amazing however, don’t get too excited as this series is slated for release sometime in 2024. They also announced another series which is going to be called Sophomore Year so there might be a possibility of four seasons of this series.
There were hints of a bleak future in an episode of What If about a zombie plague infesting the MCU and turning iconic characters into zombies. Now the folks over at Marvel are giving us a series called Marvel Zombies. This series is going to be slated for a 2024 release. We don’t have a lot of information about it at the time but if it is anything like the episode it will be completely off the rails.
X-Men 97 was one of Marvel’s most iconic animated series and now they are bringing it back with a continuation of the series. This new series is going to be amazing and the theme song has been reworked for it. While fans are excited for this as well it will be released sometime in the fall of 2023, However they assured us that it will be worth the wait.
The series What If is also making a comeback with not just one but two new seasons! We are going to see more introductions of some great characters such as Hela and Shang-Chi. There is also an episode that is going to be dedicated to 1602 which was a series written by Neil Gaiman! Taking place in the year 1602 superheroes are showing up in some unfamiliar places and if you haven’t read this series you should. The next season of What If is scheduled to appear on Disney+ in early 2023.
One of the biggest stunners of the show was the release of the trailer of their newest series called I Am Groot. This is going to be a collection of shorts showing off Groot in a variety of situations as a young sapling. Also, it turns out that Groot might not be the only character in this series with Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket Raccoon so there might be a bunch of early Groot/Rocket adventures. Oh and the best part? This series is slated to be on Disney+ August 10th! That’s in a few weeks!
