Netflix Cancels Iron Fist and Luke Cage

A few weeks ago I found out that the series Iron Fist was cancelled on Netflix and at first I was stunned. I know a lot of people did not like this current incarnation of Iron Fist however, what happened this season made the show amazing and I wanted to see where they were going to go with that. Think of it this way: we would have seen Danny Rand and Colleen Wing go their separate ways and it would have been awesome as they could have taken the story line in a million different directions.

Now recently as Daredevil season 3 was launched we found out that Luke Cage was also dropped before its third season. This made ZERO sense to me as I thought to myself “What the heck is going on with Netflix?” And as I thought about it more and more it reminded me of an episode of South Park. You know the one that I am talking about as the boys from South Park are trying to get Coon and Friends made as a Netflix series? Yeah. At that point during Netflix’s life they were starving for original content. They thought it doesn’t matter the cost of what we need to pay as long as we get people subscribed and keep coming back month after month for unique shows that they cannot see anywhere else.

However, now Netflix is at a stage where they are established but they need to watch what they spend and how they go about budgeting their money. They can’t just go out and spend 500 million dollars on shows to produce original content. This would put the company in a state of finanancial jeopardy if they did this. Right now we know that Daredevil season 3 is done and is on the streaming service as well as Punisher season 2 and Jessica Jones season 3 are shot and will be coming to Netflix. After that it is a crapshoot as Disney is going to be launching their OWN streaming service. You have noticed that there has been less and less Disney movies on Netflix right? That’s the reason for it!

Now this might not be a bad thing in fact it may be a VERY good thing! Think about it this way. Lets say Disney launches their platform and goes “We are bringing back Luke Cage and Iron Fist with the same actors and plotlines from the 2nd season. But we are also bringing in a few new shows to see what sticks.” Imagine if you not only got those shows returning but you got others like the New Warriors, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and possibly even a Fantastic Four show! Wouldn’t you pay $9.99 a month to watch those shows and more original content? I would in a heartbeat!

Why do you think Netflix cancelled these shows? Are you going to be subscribed to the new Disney streaming service when it is launched? Let us know as we love to hear what you think on this subject!
