The IMF agency comes under threat from the Syndicate, a near-mythical organization of assassins and rogue operatives who kill to order. Faced with the IMF’s disbandment, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) assembles his team (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Rebecca Ferguson) for his most difficult mission to date – to prove the Syndicate’s existence and bring the organization down by any means necessary.

Rogue Nation is the fifth instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which has earned more than $2 billion. Those under 40 might not know the film franchise was based on a 1960s TV series that starred Peter Graves, Barbara Bain and Martin Landau. Cruise returns as superspy Ethan Hunt with Christopher McQuarrie directing; these two are no strangers as they have collaborated previously on Jack Reacher, Valkyrie, and Edge of Tomorrow. McQuarrie hit the big time in Hollywood with his Oscar winning screenplay The Usual Suspects and found success in working with Cruise. Not one to rest on his laurels, Cruise (at age 52) takes the action to the next level. Known for doing all of his own stunts regardless of how dangerous, Cruise scaled Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. In Rogue Nation he takes to the friendly skies, hanging on to the side of a plane as it takes off, as seen in the film’s official trailer. In theaters July 31.
