Mirror’s Edge was a game that was first of it’s kind, and thankfully not the last, as E3 has just shown us a new upcoming trailer for it’s sequel. A sequel that is released February 23, 2016 gamers, please take note and get your wallets ready.
Anyways, back to what is important.
The Mirror’s edge story focuses on our main Heroine, Faith. A young woman who is what is known as a ‘runner’. In a world where communication channels are now monitored very closely, she excels in delivering information for clients that wish to stay off the grid. When Faith’s sister, a cop, is found charged with murder. She uses the skills she has acquired over years worth of death defying deliveries to find out who incriminated her, or die trying.
The game allows us to traverse the city landscape, and escape more than a few enemies, in breath taking fashion. The gameplay is modelled after parkour runners and their own courageous, and often heart clenching, leaps of ‘Faith’ across city landscapes. This allows us to feel a sense of adventure that many wish was possible in their everyday lives. However common sense, and a natural respect for gravity, often keeps most of us rooted to the floor instead of leaping across rooftops. If you want a feel for it, look no further than here. If this does’t convince you that it’s a fun game, this show of free running at it’s finest, I don’t know what will.
The fighting system is very simplistic, and only has a short selection of moves. Instead concentrating on a more reactionary system that will allow you to counter your opponent quickly, and to keep on running. In truth, the game doesn’t really encourage a stand and fight system, and wants you to use the landscape to your advantage in an attempt to keep your free run going.
While completely simple in its approach, I found Mirror’s Edge to be immensely enjoyable and something worth any gamers time. The feeling of freedom, and the heart pounding chases, are enough to grab any gamers attention. While background music is kept to a minimum, it only enhances the game play to hear Faith’s own laboured breathing, and gun fire ripping through the environment after you.
I don’t know what games you’re about to play guys, but I suggest you pick this one up cheap and give it a go. You’ll enjoy it, and want to pick up the sequel.
P.S.
Pick up the sequel.
