Microsoft’s E3 event just finished up and I have to say that I was skeptical that they could even improve over last years event.
I was wrong.
We were shown sixty. That’s 6-0 game trailers in the span of an hour and a half and that alone is an incredible feat! Here are some of the highlights we saw from the show.
The show kicked off with a trailer for Outer Worlds from Obsidian Entertainment and I have to say the closest thing I can compare this to is Bioshock in Space! I love the environments and how you can either be a hero or a villian or even a complete psychopath. Next was Bleeding Edge which is an online combat game that pits you in a 4v4 match as you inflict pain with various types of edged weapons in a futuristic setting. Ori and the Will o Wisps is a beautiful game set in a fantastic world as you battle giant enemies that want to do you harm.
Love Minecraft but want a bit more of a great experience? Look no further than Minecraft Dungeons as you can delve deep underground to fight monsters and epic bosses. Star Wars makes a comback in a big way with Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order as we saw the main character hijack an AT-AT! The next game was completely out of left field as it saw you in the woods hunting for a lost boy however, it is home to the Blair Witch.
One of the games I am looking forward to the most has to be CD Projekt Red’s new creation Cyberpunk 2077. This shows how you can approach each situation and the consequences that it brings from it. We also got an announcement that Keanu Reeves is in the game as the iconic Johnny Silverhand and I called it when I said this would get a 2020 release. This game releases on 4/16/2020 and I am excited for it!
Spiritfarer looks like a unique and amazing game as you build your home either on land or sea and take care of the spirits that reside there. You will laugh, love and ultimately say goodbye to these spirits as this game looks awesome. Ever doodle when you were in school? If so you’ll feel right at home in this new RPG called RPGTime: The Legend of Wright as this looks like something a child would draw.
During the Xbox Game Pass we were shown so many trailers we couldn’t even keep track as there were games for every type of gamer out there. And if you get Xbox Game Pass today you will have access to four new games which are Batman Arkham Knight, Hollow Knight, Borderlands Perfect Collection and Metro Exodus. Also, the Xbox Game Pass is coming to the PC as well and you will be able to play over 100 games including for the first time Halo on PC! Games were flying at us now as we got a new Microsoft Flight Simulator, Wasteland 3, Age of Empires II Definitive Edition as well as Psychonauts 2, Lego Star Wars and a Dragonball RPG coming out in early 2020! A unique game that was shown was 12 Minutes as you play a husband coming home to his wife as he is trying to figure out how to escape from a time loop. Way to the Woods was a unique action puzzle game where you are a deer leading their fawn through a world full of other creatures and hazards.
Some of the other games shown at the show were Borderlands 3, Dying Light 2, Forza Horizon 4 (now with legos!), Crossfire X, Phantasy Star Online 2, Tale of Arise, Gears of War POP (a mobile game coming to Android and Apple) and Crossfire X (which looks like an online shooter). We also got a teaser trailer for a game called Elden Ring which is a new world being developed by Mizaki and George RR Martin!
The best was saved for last as we got an annoucement on the XCloud and Console Streaming in the Xbox One Console. Now you will be able to stream your games anywhere from you Xbox One console. However, the highlight of the show had to be the next generation console called the Xbox Scarlett. This console is going to focus solely on gaming as it will have a custom Zen 2 processor that has 4x the power of the Xbox One X! With frames of 120fps, next gen ray tracing and 8k gaming along with a SSD with 40x more improvement over current SSD’s. Using the SSD’s as virtual ram this will “eat monsters for breakfast” and it is going to be releasing holiday 2020. However, we were also treated to one game on the new console and that was Halo: Infinite. It showed how Master Chief was saved from space and pans to show that the Halo was destroyed and the character that rescued him saying that we need to run. But Chief just says, “We need to fight!” and this is going to be a hell of a Halo game.
