Microsoft Making their Apps Universal Across Their Platforms

A recent announcement made by Microsoft has put all game developers, current and new, in a tizzy of excitement. They’ve done this by announcing that the Xbox One will support Universal Windows Apps starting this summer.
What this means for the clueless gamer is that the Windows store and Xbox Store will be merged.
For those developers who were wondering how they would break into the console market, the chances have never looked better for them. As this now means they can build cross platform games that will target not only the companies desktop OS, but also their mobile and console systems.
You can effectively hit three different platforms with one game.
It’s a game changer.
This isn’t the first attempt by Xbox to merge their gaming console with their other platforms, however this one does seem to be the most exciting endeavour so far. Last year, Xbox users became capable of streaming video footage of their gameplay to PC’s running their OS. That said, that wasn’t too exciting. However the amount of games that are sure to pour into the Xbox store with this cross platform idea is sure to be. Indie gamers will be appearing hand over foot to make their apperance in the bigger gaming world, and Sony might lose out cause of Xbox’s bid at a larger market now.
The most exciting news from all of this though has to be the companies plans to launch “Xbox Live Tournaments Platform”. A tool through which they will allow coders who craft Xbox one games or Windows 10 games to create their own eSport leagues.
Dozens of new and potential games could be made competitive.
With that in mind, my inner competitor is screaming out to me to crush any competition.
All in all its a pretty cool idea thrown down by the Xbox company, and one can only wonder how Sony will respond to this effective company manuvering on Xbox’s part.
