Microsoft Giving Up It’s Exclusivity Deals?
Author: S.A.
Gaming fans everywhere base their system choices on one defining factor, that being the exclusive games that are offered on that specific console. A good game can make a newly budding video game fan choose the Xbox over the PS4, or the PC over both the console giants. This said, when a company renegs on previously promised exclusive games the result is less than spectacular in terms of their popularity.
Today we’re looking at you Microsoft.
When Microsoft annouced that Quantum Break, a time warping exclusive game of theirs, was going to be making its way to the PC as well the resulting back lash from fans was spectacular. Especially given that the game would be released for both platforms on the exact same day.
A casual gamer might think this wasn’t a big deal.
Go home, your drunk.
More than a few gaming fans took to the internet to express their displeasure at this sudden about face. All of which seemed to have taken their time to let Phil Spencer, Xbox’s head guy, their anger at what is seen as selling the company’s fan’s out. After all, if the games these fan’s were suppose to gain only on the Xbox are now available on the PC than what was the purpose of their initial purchase. They could have invested in a better computer and never decided to purchase the company’s console.
Xbox Players are losing the list wars slowly but surely.
However it’s easy to understand the position from a financial standpoint, and Spencer even alluded to it in his calm response to the hate tweets he was receiving. He stated quite clearly that the Xbox One and Windows 10 are the company’s highest priorities. After all, despite the companies popularity with their console, they still have a huge stake in the computer wars as well. That said, this might hint at further games being released onto the PC for the gaming giant. Which had some fan’s in a tizzy of excitement, stating that Sony should follow in the companies foot steps.
That’s not likely to ever happen.
While Microsoft has a solid investment in the PC gaming wars, Sony has no such stake. This means that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Horizon: Zero Dawn are likely still safe on the system. The Sony Corporation just doesn’t have a horse in anything other than the console race, and Microsoft is spreading itself thin. This kind of difference might make the difference between bang or bust in the gaming wars. Though for who remains to be seen.
