Marvel’s Daredevil 309 – Revelations

The reverberations of the mother and child reunion continue to rock Matt Murdock in the opening moments of Revelations. Looking for answers he confronts Father Lantom and in the process he learns more about his mother, his father and himself. The flashback scenes featuring his parents reveal a lot about them, especially Sister Maggie. The choices people make, coupled with their unintended consequences can set in motion a series of events that can have long lasting effects.

Truth, human frailty and duty are eternal themes in the world Daredevil inhabits. Sister Maggie, Matt and Father Lantom aren’t the only ones dealing with these weighty issues. Agent Nadeem also finds himself under an avalanche of trouble when he tries to do the do the right thing and expose Fisk’s meddling in the FBI to his superiors. No good deed goes unpunished as they say and Nadeem soon finds himself trapped, not because of his financial weaknesses but due to his loyalty to the organization that gives him purpose.

Karen also finds herself coming to terms with her own actions. Her face off with Fisk now has her fearing for her life and she decides to skip town and go into hiding. Foggy tries to change her mind but the reality of poking the Kingpin of Crime where it hurts him most can have grave consequences. Foggy on the other hand tries to find out how to deal with the situation he’s thrust himself into. His speech at Tower’s gala has gone viral improving his chances to become the new D.A. However Karen’s decision to run isn’t lost on her good friend and the daunting task of facing Fisk doesn’t rest lightly on his shoulders.

The beauty of human frailty and the mistakes people make is that sometimes they can make amends. Sister Maggie bares her soul and as a gesture extends an olive branch to Karen. Some entanglements are harder to wriggle out of though and this reality soon become clear to Foggy and Agent Nadeem as Fisk’s manipulations and schemes cast a dark shadow on those they hold dear. Nadeem’s predicament is particularly grave especially when he finds himself in the crosshairs of Fisk’s bullseye.

Everyone’s eyes are opened in Revelations. From Matt to Foggy to Karen to Nadeem, the true scope of what they are facing shakes the very foundation of their worlds. Even the Kingpin’s clandestine meeting at the conclusion of the episode startles the rest of the underworld evoking memories of one of the most iconic scenes from The Untouchables. There will be a reckoning though and now that Fisk is calling all the shots it’s up to Matt to stand in his way before it’s too late.
