London, Ontario is geek central this weekend as the London Comic Con provides the opportunity for pop culture enthusiasts to revel in all things geek. Located at the Western Fair District in the Progress Building, patrons can shop for rare and vintage toys, dive into a plethora of comic book bins in search of golden and silver age comics or purchase memorabilia featuring their favourite characters from sci-fi, comics, horror and video games.
Stars such as Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Pacific Rim), Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite, Spawn), Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens) and Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) are on hand to sign autographs and thrill the crowd during Q and A’s on the convention floor. Artist Alley is filled with a mix of professional and amateur artists sketching pictures and doing art commissions. RAID Studio is well represented with members Scott Hepburn, Kalman Andrasofszky, Erik Vedderand and Nimit Malavia (Wolverine & Jubilee, Fables) in attendance. Also on hand in Artist Alley are Ulises Farinas (Judge Dredd), Jason Moore, Anthony Wallace (Dr. Who) .
Cosplay is well represented at London Comic Con with harpies, Power Rangers, Sailor Moons, jedis, Ghostbusters and Spider-Men walking through the aisles. The Dalek Society of Canada has a booth and there are several automated Daleks moving through the convention hall making their presence known and shouting, “Exterminate!” There is also a retro gaming area where you can play old old Atari games like Metal Slug and Super Smash Brothers.
There’s plenty of things to interest kids of all ages. In the Kids Zone interactive role-play put on by A1 Hero: The Party Performers gave kids the opportunity to portray their favourite heroes and to defeat the A1 Hero performers dressed in full cosplay. There were two performances on Saturday, the first based on Spider-Man and the second featuring Batman. The children cheered on their heroes during the performance and had a great time defeating the villains. Paul, one of the performers from A1 Hero said that they regularly do kids parties and that they put on performances that teach kids morality and empowers them to be heroes themselves.
London Comic Con concludes today at the Western Fair District in the Progress Building from 10 am until 4 pm.
