Set in the futuristic 2105, the gamer finds their character in the Grand Canyon following what is commonly known at this point as, The Shattering. Basically, the human race screwed up somehow and now the moon is gone, and this has a huge impact on gravity (not sure how that works, but let’s rolls with it). On the surface, society is split into three kinds of people: law-abiding citizens, law breakers, and people who can’t count. There is advanced tech (duh! They’re roughly a hundred years in the future, I’m surprised they don’t all have robot slaves to do their fighting!) and performance-enhancing drugs that are widely used.
This free-to-play sci-fi FPS’s combat style is not unlike Unreal Tournament. You know, the stage where you’re fighting on the outside of a ship as it hurtles through space? Varying levels of gravity means that your fighting style needs to be fluid to adapt to the different forces affecting your character. Characters also have different ways of manipulating the gravity around them, but the centre of each map has low gravity. In the recent teaser video, there are four unique characters with equally special skills. This class-based multiplayer-only game is tactical charged. Pick your class and weapons based on the needs of your team, which you can change at any time and takes effect once you die. Here are the current classes in order from left to right!
- Maverick, the skirmisher, has a jetpack. ‘Nuff said. OR IS IT?! She also has an ability called Starfall where she hovers midair for a few seconds then dives down on unsuspecting enemies to deal considerable damage (but not enough for one-hit kills), and drops a large zero-g field through which she can navigate using her aforementioned jetpack. Sweet deal, lemon peel!
- Breacher, the gunner, has the ability to MANUALLY SHOOT BEHIND HIM. What. He also comes equipped with a skill called Time Dilation which speeds him up drastically. Also, he can share this speed buff with nearby allies.
- Chronos, the titan. He’s basically the hulk with guns. Best part? HE CAN ROCKET JUMP! So many memories of Quake popping up! What can beat that? He can shoot shockwaves of energy that does damage! Last thing about him: he has a mine that dramatically increases the gravitational force in a small area. Airborne enemies, prepare to meet my friend: the ground.
- Kitsune, the assassin, has the ability to double-jump and is seen using a hookshot-esque laser to jump off a ledge and swing around to knife some poor, unsuspecting victim. She also has a grenade that pushes targets away from its point of impact (shocker!) and leaves a small pocket of reversed
Boss Key Productions have set up a forum on the Nexon website where you can ask, basically, any question and they will try to answer it with as much detail without spoiling certain aspects of the impending game. With their staff of 40 workers, they are working around the clock to ensure the 2016 release of the game. If you want even more information straight from the horse’s mouth, check out Boss Key Productions’ website here.
Lastly, online comments and forums are all a-buzz about how “free-to-play games suck” and bombarding the game with negativity because of it. This game is NOT pay to win, because every weapon available through micro-transactions are available in-game. There’s nothing stopping you from getting the shotty of your choice. So, don’t be a prejudiced douche, give it a chance. What’s the worst that could happen? You might like it?
