After spending the premiere episode on aliens and outer space, Knuckleheads, Canada’s latest animated comedy show turned to vampires in its latest attempt to parody pop culture genre and tropes. The Vampire Neighbour features Gabriel and Samuel dealing with the arrival of a new neighbor with a dark secret. In order to save their neighbourhood from certain death, they must expose the newcomer’s secret before it’s too late.

The Vampire Neighbour plays like a cross between The Goonies, Stranger Things and The Lost Boys but with the Knuckleheads’ unique way of creating parodies. Ketchup chips are the root of all evil and Hugo quickly falls prey to the new neighbour. The disappearance of their best friend springs Gabriel and Samuel into action in a quest to get to the bottom of things. Hilarity ensues as the kids and adults fumble their way around the arrival of their mysterious new neighbours.

The Vampire Neighbour features some of Joe Cobden’s best characterizations. His portrayal of the kids, Henry and the new neighbours elicit more than a few laughs and really showcases his ability to create a diverse universe of characters. The references to vampire lore and tropes are well done and the gore comes across like a Jackson Pollack painting.

After conquering outer space and now horror movies the Knuckleheads season is off to a great start. As the show continues it should gain momentum and become of the more entertaining shows coming out of Teletoon at Night.
