When I was working for a comic book store back in Staten Island, NY in the 1990’s one of the events I was around for was the launch of Image Comics. Back then we had a few books that were amazing and some that were like “Dear God what were they on when they made this?!” The one book I remember getting a few issues of was Spawn #1. This book dealt with Al Simmons as he’s betrayed while saving the president from an assassination attempt. He goes to hell and makes a deal with the devil in order to see his wife for one final time. However, years have passed and he is brought back as a horrible and twisted creature that is unrecognizable by his wife or his daughter.
There have been multiple issues of this comic made as well as an animated TV show and a feature film which left a lot to be desired. Now the folks over at Blumhouse Productions are working on rebooting this amazing property. They’ve also announced who will take the lead role as Al Simmons aka Spawn.
And it is Jamie Foxx.
I could not be happier with this choice as I feel he will bring all of his skills to this role to create an amazing experience for hardcore fans as well as first timers who haven’t consumed anything Spawn related. I hope they keep John Leguizamo as Violator as that was one of the best parts of the first film.
