It was a party filled atmosphere at Gotham Central Comics and Collectibles in Mississauga as the comic book store celebrated their 3rd anniversary and grand opening on Saturday. Comic book enthusiasts were treated to what amounted to a mini-con as the store was filled with some of the industry’s hottest creators. Fans lined up to get sketches and autographs from the likes of David and Meredith Finch (Wonder Woman), Agnes Garbowska (My Little Pony), Leonard Kirk (Fantastik 4), Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals, Howard the Duck) and Mike McKone (Punisher, Exiles).
Also on hand to help celebrate Gotham’s new location were Canadian legend, Richard Comely (Captain Canuck), Mike Rooth, Hugh Rookwood and several members of the Spent Pencils art studio. To help celebrate the occasion, fans were served cake and were delighted by cosplayers Amazon Princess Wonder Woman and the Sons of Gotham.
Owner Carlos Camara was quite pleased with the turnout and joyous atmosphere as fans young and old had the chance to meet the talented creators behind some of their favourtite titles. As fans bought comics and checked out the vast array of vintage and modern toys in the store, Carlos spoke of some of the events he had planned for 2015. Some of the highlights he mentioned were Free Comic Book day on May 2nd and a couple of events designed to highlight independent creators. The move to the new location (1400 Aimco Blvd), which is just across the street from the old store, gives Gotham the chance to host more events like the one on Saturday and to make the comic buying experience even more rewarding for its customers.
