It’s the time of the year again dear readers.

That time where new games are announced, and the success of a company can be determined time and time again. That’s right folks, E3 has come and gone. In its wake are a litany of new games to have been announced, causing a havoc and stir within the gaming community as always, but none as exciting as the return of a fan favourite.

That being the God Of War.

During the short gameplay segment provided to players during E3, director Cory Barlog gave us the important rundown on what has become of the upcoming title. A plethora of changes are coming our way, ranging from environment and play style, with only Kratos himself as the remaining constant for the series.

Players know little of what really happened to Kratos at the end of God Of War III, other than seeing a blood trail moving away from where his cooling corpse was suppose to lay. That said, Barlog claims that after the events of the previous title, Kratos has accepted that he shall never be able to die and has thus moved on past the anguish the gods have put him through. Since that time, he has wandered throughout all of Europe in search of a place that he can call home. Eventually, though we don’t know how long, Kratos chooses to settle in Scandinavia during a time before the Vikings.

A time where Norse gods still walk the earth.

Here he meets a lady and has what no player ever thought he would, a family. Though his wife is completely absent in the trailer, an absence that will be part of the larger story, we have the pleasure of meeting Kratos’ son. The son, like Kratos, is a demigod. However that is where the similarities end, the young boy does not have his father fury or insane strength as of yet and is slowly being trained in the ways of the warrior by Kratos himself. Which is surprising given Kratos’ rather rough nature, however he seems to have tried to bury his never ending rage in attempt to raise the child properly.

This relationship between father and son will be at the heart of the game, as Kratos’ son will be with us throughout the whole adventure and offering what support he can. As we teach the child more and more, we can track the child’s growth through an experience point system. Allowing him to seemingly assist in battle more seamlessly through the push of a button – slowing down our enemies or distracting them all together.

That’s all we’ve been able to gain so far on the upcoming game, but stay tuned for more guys. The return of Kratos is sure to be a hot button topic for months to come.
