I can remember it as if it was yesterday. I was living on Staten Island and there was going to be a showing of a film that was covered in Fangoria called Puppet Master. That was my initiation into the Full Moon Universe and now the studio has come out with its own line of horror comics! I recently had a chance to catch up with the folks over at Full Moon Comix and they had this to say about their new venture.
TR: Please introduce yourself.
SG: My name is Shawn Gabborin. I’ve been writing comics since 2004, and hooked on horror movies since I was 5.
TR: Full Moon Comix is a new venture by Full Moon. Please tell us about it.
SG: In the past Full Moon has licensed the rights of some of their properties to various comic publishers. But this time, they wanted to stay hands-on and create all new stories in-house by starting Full Moon Comix. So what Brockton McKinney and myself get to do is work directly with Charles Band to create fully canonical stories based on and expanding on our favorite Full Moon properties.
TR: Who is going to be working on these titles?
SG: We have some GREAT talents working on Dollman Kills the Full Moon Universe! From covers by industry legends like Tony Moore and Ben Templesmith, to interiors by awesome artists like Daniel Pascual and Bridget Connell, we’re doing our best to make this book a must-read not just for existing fans, but for those who are finding Full Moon for the first time!
TR: Tell us a bit more about your initial offering Dollman Kills the Full Moon Universe.
SG: The Full Moon Universe is full of crazy characters and creatures, and we wanted to take full advantage of that. So the decision was made to begin with this universe-spanning crossover. Every issue will have a 20 page front feature and a shorter backup story, each focusing on Dollman attempting to take out another Full Moon property. Hopefully we’ll be able to give everyone their favorite Full Moon characters and introduce them to some they may not have been familiar with at the same time!
TR: Is this going to be a limited series or ongoing?
SG: Dollman Kills the Full Moon Universe is a six issue limited series, but Brockton and I are laying groundwork into it that builds the foundation of tons of future stories we have planned. It all starts here.
TR: When is this going to be available and how much?
SG: Issue #1 is available for preorder right now (so please let your LCS know you want a copy!!) and will be on comic store shelves on August 1st . The first issue has three standard covers, by Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night), Robert Hack (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Daniel Pascual at $3.99/each. There is also the 1-in-5 retailer incentive cover by Tony Moore (The Walking Dead), so retailers will be setting their own prices on that cover.
TR: If they can’t get this through their local comic store can they order it from Full Moon Direct?
SG: Yes! We plan on offering the comics through Full Moon Direct, as well as direct market retailers. One special announcement: Brockton, Charles Band, Chris Alexander, and myself will be at San Diego Comic Con this year signing the SDCC exclusive first issue of Dollman Kills. And for a few hours on Saturday so will the original Dollman, legendary actor Tim Thomerson! It’s literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get the book signed by everyone at one time!
TR: If this series takes off what would you want to work on next?
SG: When you read this book, there are some obvious and some subtle seeds that Brockton and I have been planting. Especially once issue six wraps up, you’ll see the stage we’ve set and where we plan on going next. It’s going to be a Hell of a ride!
TR: What Full Moon character/franchise would you love to see as a comic.
SG: Honestly, it would be a shorter list to say which Full Moon properties I WOULDN’T want to work on next! We’ve got some things in early stages, but I’m the kind of guy who likes to keep things quiet until the time is right to announce them.
TR: Any final thoughts?
SG: I would just want to thank everyone in advance for supporting us and trying out our crazy comics!
And there you have it folks! If you are a fan of the Full Moon properties you need to check them out over at https://www.fullmooncomix.com/ and get ready to see who Dollman will go after first.
