EGLX – Toronto’s New Gaming Convention
Author: S.A.

With things constantly changing in the gaming world, and viewership for competitive gaming increasing all over the world, it seems only natural that Toronto would finally start to invest in it’s market. That said, EGLX (Ethusiast Gaming Live Expo), was a step in the right direction for the gaming community.

After all, it’s the first real gaming convention that Toronto has ever sported.ChngSz6WsAApyPY

That’s right, we’ve had our first gathering of gaming minds my dear Torontonians and it was nothing short of fun. For those of you who didn’t have the privilege of checking it out this year, we are expecting a repeat in a years time.

So keep your eyes out for news on it’s return.

Despite it being the first appearance of an event of this nature, we over here at the website were not disappointed. The convention hall was packed all weekend long, with a litany of not only game lovers, but also indie developers, cosplayers, and competitive gaming fighters. With games such as Hearth Stone, Smash Brothers, Counter Strike Go, and even Street Fighter V amongst the games that competitors went toe to toe in.maxresdefault

The experience was more than pleasant, with the convention sporting quite the easy going vibe from not only the organizers but also everyone in attendance. Their was no unwelcoming face in sight, and many seemed beyond excited to try the indie games being showcased.

Myself included.

New idea’s were showcased by up and coming developers, more than a few of which will be featured on the website due to their creative nature and interesting design. That said, I found every development team to be both welcoming and extremely enthusiastic about not only their games but also their competition. It’s easy to forget due to the sheer bombardment of brand name companies such as Ubisoft, or Naughty Dog, that other companies exist within the gaming world.

Well I’m telling you not only do they exist, but they also still love gaming as much as you or me.

This I find to be a pleasant reminder, especially given how it sometimes feels that we as gamers just throw our money into companies who no longer care about their end product. As long as they are producing titles that have a ‘formula’ to win, than they no longer care. Which is easy to understand from a financial standpoint, but from a gaming one?

Well it feel’s rather lacking.

Aside from the great indie teams present at the convention, there was a variety of panels and talks being offered to people who are not only interested in the industry but also just want to understand ‘why’ things are done the way they are within the gaming world. Which proved to be a rather eye opening experience for an outsider looking in.

If learning about gaming didn’t entice you, there were plenty of areas set up for sheer gaming mayhem. Whether that be old classic arcade games to newer ones such as Halo, their was a way to play your favourite titles. If only to get schooled by someone much better.ChesIKqUgAA9WFw

I won’t comment about my own loss in Smash Brothers.

All in all the event was hours of fun and something that will be on the top of my to do list should EGLX make it’s way back to Toronto next year. All of us here at the website had a fun time, and hope to see new faces show up at our booth and grace us with their gaming knowledge.
