When I owned my first PC the thing was clunky, had EGA graphics and didn’t even have a CD ROM or hard drive. However, the games that I played on it were remarkable and the world of PC gaming keeps getting better by the year. The PC Gaming Show is a new conference that only appeared a few years back to show off the latest in PC gaming. Now the show has tons of great titles to showcase each year and I have to say that gaming on the PC never looked so bright.
The first game they started out with, Satisfactory, looks to be a colonization type game where you need to build huge automated factories to get the resources that you will need to build other structures and self driving vehicles. You will also be able to explore but be warned as not all the wildlife is friendly so you will need to be aware. You can sign up for the closed alpha at www.satisfactorygame.com so you will know what it’s like to build your own massive factories.
The next game shown off is a one called Neo Cab where you are a cab driver in a futuristic world. You will pick up passengers and have conversations with them as you move to this city to try and find your friend. This indie game looks amazing as you try to find out what happened to your friend and you also try and make a living by ferrying people from place to place. Learn more at neocabgame.com. After that another Battle Royale game was shown off (like we needed another one of those) and this one is called Mavericks. However, there’s a difference in the scale of the game as you will not go against 100 players but 1,000. Yes, you heard right 1,000 people vying to be the last person standing. Also this is different as your character will leave footprints and broken foliage in the environment. You can use this to either track people or set up ambushes and that to me is amazing.
Next up is a game called The Forgotten City which takes place in a long forgotten underground city. You are tasked in this first person adventure game to escape where others could not. So will you find a way out or will you be trapped underground forever? What happened next threw me for a loop and it is from the people over at Stardock as they are making a BRAND NEW Star Control game! This is not a remake, sequel, prequel … none of that! It is an entirely new experience and I cannot wait to get my hands on it! You will be able to explore an open universe with thousands of planets and encounter alien races like you have never seen before. If you want to learn more about the game head over to www.starcontrol.com.
And the hits keep on coming with Hunt: Showdown and if you have not heard about this game yet…it is going to be amazing. You are a hunter of creatures as you try to kill them and get out with your loot. They announced new weapons such as a crossbow, hand crossbow and throwing knife to kill enemies silently as well as a sticky bomb to deal with pesky monsters or enemies. The next game is Archangel: Hellfire which is a multiplayer mech based shooter that looks fast paced and action packed. The game is going to be released July 16th and looks like the game Hawken wanted to be.
The Sinking City is up next and if you have followed me on here you know I have talked about this game. This game looks amazing as you will be investigating this city however, there is something that is lurking beneath the surface. If you love Lovecraftian horrors you will need to watch out for this game. After that we were treated for a trailer for the F2P game Warframe which if you haven’t played I would suggest you check it out. It has an amazing player base and they are releasing their next chapter called The Sacrifice. Tripwire also came by to announce what is in store with Killing Floor 2. There are going to be four updates as one has come out this year and the Summer Sideshow: Treacherous Skies is going to be released soon. It combines steampunk with a circus and it takes place on a skyship! Also they’re going to release new weapons and a weapon upgrade system that will be able to give your guns much more firepower. Tripwire also announced they are going to be working with smaller publishers to bring games to the market and the first is Road Redemption. This game looks like a more insane version of Road Rash as you will fight against other bikers in crazy environments. Staying with Tripwire we were treated with a new look at their shark based game called Man Eater. You will be able to swim in various environments to not only take out other wildlife but humans who have gotten too close to your hunting grounds.
After that we got an announcement from Untitled Publisher (that is their name) and they are releasing 3 games. The first looks like a turned based fighting game called Bravery Network Online, the second game looked as if it was a farm based sim but turned dark and is called Morning Star and the last is called Overwhelm where you need to run and gun to defeat creatures in a hive. We got a trailer for the theme park management sim called Jurassic Park Evolution and if you ever wanted a chance to run your own Jurassic Park this is the game to get.
From Insomniac Games they brought us an open world game that can be experienced in VR as you will prepare to go to the Stormland. This game looks interesting. You will play as a robot caretaker that was gunned down by other robots and you will look to explore the world and bring it back into balance. Another game that was talked about was yet another cab simulator game (what are the odds?!) but this takes place in France and has a noir style to it as you can interact with your passengers to find out what’s going on. Strap yourself in and get ready to go for a ride in Night Call. Sable is a game that has an impressive style as you will search out environments both on foot and on the backs of fast vehicles.
Star Citizen gave us an update of what is in store for the game which has been in development for a few years now and looks better with every passing look I give it. The game showed action not only in the depths of space but on the ground as well as you can fight in both environments. Predator stopped by and showed off some of their tech which included a laptop (which is $9,000 btw however, it is better than most PC’s out there) and a monitor. However, they have sold out of the laptops if you can believe that! Genesis Alpha One is another game that has been on my radar and this game looks amazing. You will build up your base, explore it and deal with any threats as well as visit nearby planets to get the resources you will need to make improvements. This game looks amazing and I cannot wait to play it.
Don’t Starve Hamlet is a new addition to the Don’t Starve universe and the game looks like it will be bringing new horrors to torture players with. After that we saw trailers for not one but TWO different Walking Dead games. The Overkill’s Walking Dead looks amazing as you need to team up to survive in this dead, new world. Telltale games however is bringing back Clementine in the final chapter of The Walking Dead adventure game called The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Two Point Hospital was next up as they talked about their sim hospital type game (which reminds me a lot of Theme Hospital). And yet another Battle Royale game was announced and this one was based off the Paladins universe entitled Realm Royale. I wasn’t really a fan of either franchise however, if you need to scratch that battle royale itch then you might want to check it out.
The next game is called Ooblets which is a creature collecting game in the same vein of Pokemon. This game looks like it could be fun to play as you will grow crops to collect various creatures and explore a town that has tons of inhabitants. Anno 1880 was shown off next and I have to say if you love this type of game you will be excited for it. Then we had the last battle royale game of the night as they announced Rapture Rejects. However, this is a top down game as you will battle for supremacy. The last trailer we got was from the Hitman franchise and it is Hitman 2 which looks amazing and is set in Miami. It is also set during a huge race which you can use as cover to take out your objectives.
And there you have it! That is E3’s PC gaming show 2018 and if you missed anything you can check it out here so what do you think? Was this show amazing or a snore fest? Let us know!
